The villa very close to the Welligama beach which is ideal if you want to have some drinks with some breeze looking at surfers or book some surfing lessons (well worth it!). There are also a number of food courts. Most importantly, the staff make you feel very welcome. Not only do they provide good service (what you expect from a Villa), but they are also observant and friendly. Even though we went as a couple, I think this Villa is well worth for Families, friends or solo travelers because of the friendly staff and the beautiful location. The Breakfast was amazing my stay. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The entire property felt well maintained. The Pool is cleaned frequently and nice. We definitely will return to this great Villa.

The breakfast was exceptional. There are plenty of options and all of them were delicious. The breakfast includes free coffee, free juice of the day, and a free choice from the breakfast menu. We had lunch and dinner on many occasions at the hotel and everything we tried was very good! Their cocktails are also nice! The hotel also has a power generator which is a blessing for times when the power goes out (this is common in Sri Lanka). The staff were all super nice, always with a smile, and willing to assist with our requests. The AC worked perfectly and in my opinion is a must in Sri Lanka in order to get a good night's sleep. The bathroom was modern, with warm water and particularly good water pressure. The room was always clean. The view from the rooms and rooftop restaurant/bar were very nice. In case I visit again, I will return to Scenic Bay Weligama.

A lovely boutique style hotel in a perfect location. The hotel and its atmosphere exceeded our expectations, and we ended up staying longer and even returning back at the end of our trip. Tranquil and beautiful beach, surf breaks, relaxed beach bars right in front. The pool area is luxury with a beautiful sea view and the restaurant is very good, we recommend to have also a dinner there. Our stay was made extra special by the wonderful staff, who we will miss! Beautiful, quiet and clean little hotel in a lovely small village. Perfect location, just in front of two great surf spots, tucked away from traffic noise, in a green and calm village. I could do my morning surf-checks from my balcony, and then stroll over a small green field with cows to jump into the waves - and wrap up my surf session with a cold coconut in one of the beach shacks - such a magical place! Lion's has a great breakfast selection with several options for both european and sri lankan breakfast, as well as a supertasty coconut oat bowl with fruits - perfect after your morning surf. They provide free refill of fresh water at the hotel. The restaurant offers lunch and dinner, and hosts weekly social dinners (seafood bbq, sri lankan food evenings). In general, the hotel had a very friendly and social surfwibe. The pool was beautiful and clean, with poolside sunbeds (with optional umbrellas for shade). There are also two other chill out zones with comfortable and social set up: hammocks, beanie bags and yoga supplies (mats, bolsters etc) and fans for comfortable temperatures. The hotel is less than 1 minute walk away from several daily yoga classes in a beautiful and peaceful shala with a mix of yoga styles, including evening yin / restorative classes. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and made me feel very welcome. My room was beautiful and clean, and as a womas travelling alone, I felt very safe in the hotel. Good wifi. Several beautiful "hidden" smaller beaches close by (walking along the shore). There are tuktuks with friendly and helpful drivers ready outside the hotel to transport you to other surf spots or to check out the busier wibes of Weligama and Ahangama. What more can I say about this amazing place? If you want a peaceful, beautiful, relaxing stay in a welcoming and friendly environment - book your stay at Lions Rest - you won't regret it!

Great location, right in the middle of Weligama surf beach. Just around the corner from the bus station. Great views from the balcony over the beach. The room has a nice kitchenette a massive double bed and a new shower room. The WiFi is good for streaming movies and TV shows Mamas also has the best fish restaurant in Weligama opposite the hotel. I enjoyed my stay so much that I’m looking forwards to my next visit. The owner helped me plan a number of trips.

We were there 4 nights during off season.

We were there 4 nights during off season. There is not much to do there in July. Especially with kids. Since the sea was to rough to swim in! Lots of wind and felt a bit like a ghost town to us. Every restaurant we went to we were the only ones! I think 2 nights would have been more than enough

Fortunately the place is not in the city of Wellgama which is bery busy, crowdy and noisy city. We resigned from spending more time in the city after 1h walk trying to find a nice area like caffees/restaurants or local small shops where you can buy some hand made staff etc.

Weligama is an absolute gem for travelers! Whether you're chasing waves or simply looking for a peaceful escape, this place has it all. The beach is fantastic for surfing, with great waves for both beginners and pros, while also offering calm spots perfect for relaxation. The sunrises and sunsets here are truly breathtaking, making every moment by the ocean magical. The town itself is warm and welcoming, with friendly locals, great food, and a laid-back vibe. The only minor downside is the occasional plastic waste, but with more awareness and local efforts, this paradise can be even better. Overall, Weligama is an unforgettable destination that perfectly balances adventure and tranquility—a must-visit for any traveler! 🌴🏄‍♂️🌅

If you want to learn to surf it’s a great place.

If you want to learn to surf it’s a great place. But (compared to other places in SL) it’s pretty dull. Half the beach is a litter-strewn dump rest is tolerable if you’re surfing. Precious little else to do.

Without a doubt the best place we have stayed in Sri Lanka! Fantastic and friendly hosting with a huge breakfast + extras served every day (you will not go hungry here). The accommodation is only a stones throw from the beach yet far away from the hustle of the main road running through weligama. If you enjoy watching wildlife I would suggest booking a room with a river view balcony to see many birds at sunrise/sunset. I really cannot recommend this place enough!

We really enjoyed our stay in Blue Haze Weligama. Everyone in the staff (apparently a family) were really friendly and helpful. The room was clean and exactly like in the pictures. We also liked the Sri Lankan breakfast they offered in the mornings. For us the location was perfect - little bit out of the city centre (around 3km) so it was quiet place. Definitely would recommend to rent a scooter so it’s easy to move around. Beach was just 5min away from the hotel.

This was the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka. The hotel is right by the beach, fantastic restaurants within walking distance and the room itself is spotless with everything you could want. Chinthaka and his family are ridiculously attentive and lovely. No request was too much and he went out of his way to help us with everything from whale watching to laundry. We stayed for the final leg of our trip for a week and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

It was the best accomodation during our trip on Sri Lanka! Very clean room, comfortable bed, bathroom with western shower and good water pressure. Fast WiFi, nice pool. Very hospitable and helpful owner.. Hotel is located around 15 minutes of walking to the beach, in quiet and green neighborhood.
