Staying at Wood Palace in Ella was one of the highlights of my trip. The location is perfect — it feels like you’re tucked away in the jungle, surrounded by nature and total peace, yet you’re only a short stroll from town, cafes, and everything you need. That balance between seclusion and convenience is hard to find, but this place nails it. The family who runs it make the stay extra special. The mother who prepares breakfast is absolutely adorable — she cooks with such care, and her warm smile makes every morning brighter. The breakfasts themselves are delicious, fresh, and generous. The owner is a great bloke too — kind, genuine, and always ready to help with tips, directions, or just a good chat. If you want a stay in Ella that feels authentic, welcoming, and beautifully set in nature without being far from the action, Wood Palace is the perfect choice. Highly recommended! 🌿✨

If you are looking for the perfect place in Ella to relax, stop looking you’ve found the right hotel. The staff was a real bonus, they are always trying their best to make you feel at home. Regarding the room itself, it’s quite spacious, very clean & the bed will offer you the best sleep. The cubes are truly the highlight of our trip around Sri Lanka. We initially booked one night but came back for 3 more nights. There is a room service and laundry can be done too. Special thanks to Eprival 🙏🏻

The accommodation was in a fairy-tale location, even more beautiful than the pictures in the advertisement. The view alone is worth much more money, making the accommodation extremely good deal just for this reason. The host was not intrusive at all but ensured that we had no worries. He took us around the city with a tuk-tuk completely free of charge, and the breakfast was perfect and plentiful, spiced up with the view.

The location of the property is just perfect, super close to the main street but far enough to be away from the noise! Also just 30 min walk to the nine arch bridge and little Adam’s peak! The breakfast was incredibly delicious. The bed was super comfy, AC and fan worked well and the staff were super nice! Please book this place for your stay in Ella!! Highly recommended!!

One of our favourite places in SL, had much more of a town...

One of our favourite places in SL, had much more of a town feel. It is touristy but just means lots of place to eat. The hikes are amazing and were one of our favourite parts of our trip. Beware the scammers when going up Ella rock - it's a little confusing to find the path and locals will try to lead you away from the main path to 'guide' you

Ella is a wonderful place to explore.

Ella is a wonderful place to explore. It’s very clean and has breathtaking views everywhere. The people are kind, the local food is amazing, and it’s perfect for families, friends, or groups. With easy access to Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak, Ella Rock, and tea plantations, it’s an ideal base for a week of sightseeing and adventure.

People are really friendly and welcome tourists.

People are really friendly and welcome tourists. City is very small, but attractive. The 9 arches bridge is a place everyone would like to visit. Food available in the restaurants are really testy in a reasonable price. The train ride to ella was a memorable one.

It is very safe and tourist-friendly, nice climate. not hot, not tool, cold. Nice view of the mountains. Lot of foreigners. Food and services are mostly for foreigners which is not too hot, a good mix of local and international food, but very reasonably priced.

We loved the Mountain View’s.

We loved the Mountain View’s. The Main Street is a little crowded and all of the walkways are uneven. Everything is on a hill and there is a lot of walking . Stairs do not have handrails. The sites to see in the city are not easily accessible without transportation. Tuk tuk rides are very bumpy. Most of the tourists in the city are young . As an older traveler over 70, I would not recommend this location to an older adult unless you are very healthy and have good stamina for walking, heat, and bumpy rides.

We felt very comfortable during our stay and the team was very accommodating. The food was so tasty and catered to our wishes. The location was perfect for us, a little outside the centre, but you can walk to Ella in 25 minutes on the train tracks or order a Tuktuk. The Kithalella train stop is ideal, from there it is only 200 metres to the hotel. We would definitely recommend the hotel, it really enriched our stay in Ella.

The owner is very friendly and helpful in organizing TukTuks, Taxis and day trips. A nice way to get in touch with singalese people. You can walk to ella but it‘s not recommendable when it‘s dark because if the traffic. Tuktuk is easy to get, costs around 600 rupees. Rooms are very basic and simple, don‘t expect any luxury. Very good breakfast. Nice view

The hotel has a fantastic view of Ella Rock and Ella Gap which was wonderful at both sunrise and sunset. We had a pleasant stay. The hotel is clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There are works going on at the moment to build a rooftop pool which I’m sure will be lovely when complete.

Exceptional views, close to town walking along the rail tracks which was fun. Great rooms with balcony, huge comfy bed and large bathroom, good breakfasts. Sitting on rooftop deck at sunset was great, plus being able to use the infinity pool next door at 1000 Rps was a luxury after walks.
