FAQs about hotels in Phnom Penh

Cambodia's Colourful Capital

Cambodia has successfully dusted itself off from the ravages of war with its colourful capital of Phnom Penh rising from the ashes and sparkling once more. This fascinating city, on the banks of the Mekong River, features exotic markets, cultural jewels and is home to some of the friendliest people on earth.

A visit to the National Museum captures a slice of Cambodia’s ancient Khmer history and art. A different and more recent history suffocates and overwhelms visitors to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the former prison of the Khmer Rouge, and The Killing Fields are a short drive from the capital.

The Royal Palace is a striking centrepiece in the centre of Phnom Penh, and is home to the Emerald Buddha and Silver Pagoda. Not far away is the Cambodian Independence Monument that celebrates Cambodia’s sovereignty.

You can satisfy your hunger pains with delicious French-Indochina-inspired meals at various street stalls or classy restaurants. The riverside area has the Art Deco Central Market for a great bargain and there are a variety of bars, especially near Sisowath Quay.

Take time to walk around the French colonial streets with its mix of slow-moving monks and speedy motorbikes. Booking.com has many hotels located in Daun Penh and Chamkar Mon districts, amongst others.

A hidden gem.

A hidden gem. Great restaurants, magnificent river broadwalk, vibrant bars. Tuk tuks always available & cheap - but do negotiate price before getting in. Get an idea of what prices should be from your hotel or fellow seasoned travellers or locals.

Not too busy city.

Not too busy city. Streets were pretty clean and i was happy with the condition of the washrooms and toilets. Being Muslim, there were some options for halal food. However, walking around the city along roads and pavements can be a hazard for older people because of uneven road surfaces and lack of pedestrian walkways. Roads need resurfacing too- too many potholes.

it is expensive city, nothing much to offer, trips for tourist should be made affortable so that there will be more people avail the tourist attractions, 10 dollars per place is very expensive, and food is ranging 5 dollars each meal... its just ok, good thing there is a outlet shop, there i enjoyed it.

I loved Phnom Penh, but i went there with a mission of NOT seeing the Killing Fields or S21 (30% of the normal itinerary). I went to the Palace $10 and hired a guide $10... I went to Silk Island..with a guide.. I went to the Museum.. with ChatGPT... Each location was interesting **BUT** the most interesting of all was chatting to the giudes. They told us many stories of their lives, their families, their opinions about everything... this was my "alternative" to the Killing Fields and S21 "experience"...pretty sure a lot of what i heard was subjective, opinionated, perception but i would take that anyday over the informative but soulless ChatGPT... Used Chatgpt in the museum cos i didn't find a guide, they do have audio guides. Despite it's politically correct monotone responses and refusal to be drawn on any of the opinions i was given by my human guides ChatGPT was great at explaining a lot of the history. 3 days, 4 nights in Phnom Penh... maybe it's overkill for most travellers, the palace is cool, as is the riverside walk, the boat trip... The tuktuk trips to anywhere are cool...but you could do all that in a day... I'd watched the Killing Fields movie before going (and again now i have left) and i wish i had made an effort to visit the Hotel Le Royal, the FR embassy, walk the Monivong Boulevard... and on GMAPs i saw an airport in the middle of the city.. i should have tuktuked to that airport to see it maybe... The other thing that is interesting is the Chinese influence in Phnon Penh... i should have visited one of the casinos i think..the construction boom is clear to see...I had delicious authentic chinese food in Phnom Peng...seems to me that there is a big elephant in the room...i will ask ChatGPT..

Phnom Penh is a very cultural heritage capitol.

Phnom Penh is a very cultural heritage capitol. It is beautiful in many areas with temples, periods and high ranking official buildings. But there is no money spent on the people and community. There should be more infrastructure to help the people in the streets. The streets should be cleaned and housing made better. It’s such a shame that the wealth is only for the wealthy. But it was good to see . Phnom Penh is a city that you don’t need a lot of time to explore. , I suggest 4-5 days is plenty.

We were here for our first two nights in Cambodia and what a way to start off. This hotel was so nice with lovely and helpful staff , really spacious rooms included robes and slippers which was a nice touch. But What made our stay even better was the sister hotel which we had access to meant we could swim on the roof top looking out at the city and after a long day of exploring and walking, this really hit the spot!!

5 star hotel with the best facilities and location, the bed was super comfortable, the shower was hot and impressive, and the rooms were super clean. Includes a mini bar, iron, and hairdryer. Plus, a complimentary welcoming drink and swimming pool, both with excellent views of the city. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a great location in Phnom Penh. It's definitely worth the money.

Hotel couldn't be in a better place right down from the riverside and the quay. Bars, restaurants and a varied nightlife option in the vicinity of the hotel. Easy to travel around the city with good transportation connections. Rooms are cavernous and the bathroom is clean and convenient. Best bit are the staff who are immensely friendly and go above and beyond to help out.

Brilliant location close to the key riverside attractions. Rooms are lovely, and the pool bar is brilliant. The renovations should make it even more beautiful. The staff are the highlight and are just so amazing. I've stayed at various hotels in the city, and this one is the best.

The location is good. It's close to the city centre. The reception guy is very funny, he is kind but not professional. They have all the time cold beer and cold water available at decent prices at the hotel.
