The hotel is 2 minute walk from Takayama JR Station and Takayama Bus terminal, so you can use it as a base to travel to Shirakawago, Toyama or Kamikochi. Most attractions in Takayama are 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. Spacious room, helpful and friendly staff, a variety of free drinks in the fridge, well-equipped kitchen, a dining table, great breakfast. I stayed in 4 hotels during this trip in Japan, and this is the best one!

The beds were comfortable and clean. The check-in (small tour, tea, explanation of the temple, 'introducing' selves for a safe stay, etc) was interesting and relaxing. The information about the history of the temple was very interesting. There were many different options for experiences unique to a temple (copying sutras, joining morning meditation, etc).
