It felt like a premium experience. The room was bigger than expected which felt good. The onsen had a lot of options such as a sauna and cold dip among more.

We love everything in Shiroyamakan! The place, the good taste, the beautiful japanese minimalism, the private onsen, the views, the quality of the dinner and breakfast… everything is extremely curated. But what we loved the most, is the passion that all the family put in everything, their treat to us and the guests is the best! Thank you very much for make us feel like at home! And thank you for driving us around Shirakawago in a private tour for free! Wish we can come back to this beautiful village. Wish love, Carla and Armand. Arigato!

A simple homely accommodation. The owner is one of the most thoughtful host that carefully penned down the things to do (with clear English instructions with photos) in Shirakawa-go. There is a communal area where we can prepare food. The host has also left us some for us to eat and they are all FOC! There is even a washing machine with detergent that allows my family and I to do laundry after a few days on the road. Totally love this property!

Everything. The room was beautiful and comfortable, bathroom was perfectly clean and well equipped, the location was ideal and the best part were the hosts: they were extremely kind and friendly, they definitely made the whole stay a tremendous pleasure. They were kind enough to take me to the bus station and also delivered some objects I left behind to me by mail. They were gentle and respectful, and I'm very grateful for their treatment and attention. Thank you very much, I really enjoyed staying at Minsyuku and would love to come back and stay with you again! Thank you!

We loved our stay at the Samurai-era house—it was a wonderful, authentic experience of the Japanese countryside as it was in the olden days. We opted for both breakfast and dinner, and both were excellent: simple but delicious meals made with ingredients from the surrounding area. Although the host couldn't speak much English, he used a translator to share the story of the house and what life was like for farmers during that era, which added so much to our experience. I only wish we could have stayed for more than one night. Not a negative, but do take note that the facility only offer shared bathroom.

Everything! From the picture-perfect location to the amazing hospitality of our minshuku hosts. Despite the language barrier, our hosts were prompt in meeting our every need. Every meal was delicious and prepared with love and care. The sleeping area was traditional Japanese whereas the bathroom was modern, so we had both a cultural immersion and modern comforts. We were a family of 5 so we had the entire minshuku to ourselves. This is the most special stay we had in our 2-week holiday in Japan. There is something magical about spending the night in Ainokura, and we are thankful for having had the privilege.

Partition rooms no sound proof can hear neighbours walking and talking. As u go in the room feel like go army camp🤣, after check out u have to take out bedsheet, blanket liner and pillow case for them. The advantage is they provide tru & fro shuttle service to station. Is ok for me just 1 night.

1 day experience is perfect.

1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.

It has beautiful views of the snow, river, mountains and of course the thatched roof houses. The air is fresh but it is difficult to find a restaurant because they close early. It is boring at night. It would be better if visitors just go to Shirakawa for a day trip and stay at Takayama.

Shirakawa-go is a beautifully preserved hidden gem, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Walking through the village feels like stepping back in time, with its iconic gassho-zukuri farmhouses and serene atmosphere. No matter the season, the scenery is breathtaking—whether dusted in snow, surrounded by cherry blossoms, lush with greenery, or glowing with autumn colours. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in traditional Japan.

Beautiful landscape with gassho buildings that are UNESCO heritage. There are quite a few museums open for tourists to get a deeper understanding of inhabitants who lived in these buildings many years ago. Many Souvenir shops and eateries... But most close by 5pm or 6pm. Limited dinner choices at night.

Shirakawa is a really gorgeous, serene village that we absolutely loved visiting. It almost felt unreal. Even though most of the restaurants and cafes were closed when we went (due to the season), it was lovely to just walk around and enjoy the sights.
