Truly a wonderful surprise. We decided to stay here as it was reasonably near to Koyasan (about 40-50 mins drive from Okunoin) while being much more affordable than lodgings in the main Koyasan area. You can also drive to Osaka and Kansai airport from the hotel (1 hr plus). We opted for both dinner and breakfast as the hotel's location was remote. We were blown away by the food, which was extremely delicious. For dinner, we were served a sumptuous and exquisite kaiseki meal which included both traditional dishes (e.g. matsutake mushroom soup; matsutake mushroom rice; plum soba noodles; nabe hot pot) and innovative dishes (e.g. western-style cream of mushroom soup with cheese, served in a Japanese persimmon; tempura with 3 types of salt - matcha, plum, and another flavour I didn't catch). The ingredients were all of high quality and the fish dishes in particular were very fresh. We also really enjoyed the dessert (persimmon mochi and dango). The plating of the dishes was beautiful. The breakfast was also excellent. We especially enjoyed the boiled tofu with sauce, and the half-boiled egg which was cooked to perfection. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, particularly the gentleman who helped us to check in and guided us on our room and the hotel's facilities, and the serving ladies at the dining hall who patiently explained how to cook and consume the various dishes. We managed to communicate with the assistance of Google Translate and a combination of basic English & Japanese. The room was clean and fairly large for the price. The beds were comfortable and the blankets were thick and fluffy. The electronics charging station beside the beds with multiple USB ports was particularly convenient. The hotel also has an onsen which we enjoyed. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay at this hotel which offered a perfect ending to our holiday in Japan.

Ike-san was such a friendly and caring host who made sure that I was taken care of from our first moment of contact to check out. The room was extremely comfortable and provided all the necessary amenities for lodgers or even hikers travelling on bare essentials (there's a hairdryer thank goodness!!), the bathroom was clean and made for a wonderful soak at the end of a hard hike, and Ike-san went out of his way to ensure my comfort and convenience - from giving me a lift to the nearby eatery when I ran out of dinner options to generously gifting me a poncho before I set off for my hike in the rain. I'd also like to mention that his place is literally next to the Chikatsuyu-oji marker on the Kumano Kodo trail for those who are making this a rest stop on their hike. Thank you for the hospitality!!

beautiful cosy space, comfy Japanese mattresses, lovely view. conveniently located for the kimono kodo nakahechi route. Shino is a very welcoming helpful host who speaks very good English and was helpful. she also cooked us a delicious breakfast.

Very clean and with a nice sanded wood smell. Our rooms opened up to a view of the town and the mountains surrounding Chikatsuyu. The pleasure to open the windows in the sunny summer morning and enjoy the open air was absolutely unmatched. There are musical instruments in the common room, which is also very tidy, and nice smelling, yet homely.

I love our host. She made the best meals for us! Also, the bus stop to hongu was just a 2 minute walk.

The Cottage is just near the restaurants, bakery and supermarket. It has amazing views of the rice fields and mountains. The typical japanese style livingroom is really cozy. There are a lot of mosquitos everywhere in the village (it is normal if you are sorrounded by nature). Fortunately, the place was equipped with mosquito nets.

We stayed here on the Kumano kodo trek. The location is less than a km from the path so it's easy to find. It was exceptional with lots of touches that made it really comfortable after a day of hiking. The deck is great for an afternoon in the sun. Place was very clean, with shampoo, towels and even snacks provided. We almost didn't want to leave. The owner was available via message to help with anything.

Superb accommodation at the end of Stage 1 of the Kumano Kodo Kohechi.

Beautiful room, delicious food in a fully packed fridge (including craft beers and everything to make pizza!), the pizza oven was a great experience, and the home cinema system (with projector) gave us a superb chill-evening in between 2 long days of hiking. The locally roasted coffee beans and sandwiches (we followed the sandwich making instructions given to us!) really kickstarted our morning. Highly recommended!
