Very touristy and busy. Enjoyed the Mt. Usu Ropeway and the walk at the summit station, along the Southern Rim Trail to the lookout over Ginnuma Crater. Panoramic views from the Silo Observation Deck.

Very beautiful and quaint little town.

Very beautiful and quaint little town. Loved the hot foot and hand spas for the public. Views of the lake were amazing and the onsen with the cost of our room was worth it. Better to stay since it is much more beautiful than at Rusutsu Resort area and not that far to go snowboarding.

Lake Toya is a special Jewel of a retreat in Japan.

Lake Toya is a special Jewel of a retreat in Japan. It is well known but many people have never been as its slightly more difficult to get to then other Onsen. The natural beauty of the lake is breathtaking and well worth the visit, it is a small town by comparison so not so much for shopping/nightlife etc. Your going to sit and watch the sunset and soak for a long time in Onsen or tubs. Also many of the Onsen seem to be of very high quality so pick what fits budget/needs best and I bet you will have a spectacular time.

We enjoyed the Ususzan Ropeway, Volcano Museum in town and driving around the countryside to Niseko, Otaru (great canal and Railway Museum), and the National Ainu Museum at Upupoy. Beautiful lake views and fireworks each night.

Scenic beauty and great views.

Scenic beauty and great views. Opportunity for camping trips, hot baths, water sports, winter sports. Very recommended for outdoor activities at any level of fitness and experience. Still very close to main urban centres in Hokkaido (Sapporo, Chitose, etc) - about 1 hr by car.

Lake Toya is a beautiful caldera lake located next to Mt.

Lake Toya is a beautiful caldera lake located next to Mt. Usu, an active volcano. Visitors can take a ropeway to the top, or enjoy activities such as paddleboarding, hiking, camping and more in the surrounding area. During the summer, guests staying at the hotels on the lake can also enjoy the small fireworks display in the evenings.

This is not the accommodation you are looking for, stay away. I stayed here for two nights with my family and suffered and I wish that you don’t go through it. I know the photos look pretty but trust me it’s not. The view of lake Toya is not worth it. There’s nothing much to see. Try to find something near Toya onsen town. Everything is terrible. Even if it was half the price, it is not worth it. I’m not sure how they got the 4 star hotel rating but it is far from it.

Didn't realise how geared the ryokan was towards families: it has a play room, child-sized yukatas in the gift shop. It has gender segregated onsens that alternate between morning and night. There is only 1 sauna and the men take the night while women take the day. I like the lounge has coffee and desserts with free flow in the reception. They didn't offer bicycle rentals which was a shame which would be nice for cycling around Lake Toya.

Although this hotel was the least expensive of all the hotels we stayed at during our 2 week trip to Japan, it was by far the most spacious room we had. It also had an amazing unobstructed view of Lake Toya. Just beautiful, even from the tub in the huge bathroom. We only stayed here one night; wish we could have extended our stay.

Private onsen was a nice experience and the public baths were lovely as well. The room had a large window facing Lake Toya.
