We had a Japanese style room facing the river. The hotel is conveniently located next to a bridge which leads into the centre of Anbo. The accommodation has laundry and drying facilities suitable for a hiker and a public bathing room. Would stay here again!

The owner and staff were absolutely fantastic. The owner help us figure everything out for a next day's trek to Jomon Sugi. And day after that one of his staff took us to the airport to help us rent a car. They truly go above and beyond and the property is also very nice. Lot's of tasty izakayas around.

There is only 1 main accommodation area and the house has high roof, so it feels very open and spacious for me. Well ventilated with plenty of fresh air and natural light. I loved the feel of a wooden Japanese house. Everything was very clean and cozy. Loved the outdoor kitchen, lovely outdoor cooking experience; and outdoor areas, makes it easy to dry up after a rainy hiking day. The home is well equipped with racks and amenities (washing clothes, cooking). The host was so warm and caring, she checked in with you to provide necessary information on getting around and visiting Yakushima. Ask her about the meaning of the name Tomarigi, it’s very sweet. Thank you so much for my comfortable and close-to-nature stay, I had an amazing time!

Every detail—from the warm wood interiors to the handmade amenities—reflected thoughtful design and a deep respect for the island. One of the most unforgettable moments of my stay happened on the last night. That evening at Okas, I was surprised with a beautiful, celebratory dessert presented with a glowing candle and warm, sincere birthday wishes from the staff. It was unexpected, tasteful, and so deeply personal—it truly touched me. And just when I thought the evening couldn’t get any more special, I returned to my suite to find towel swans gracefully arranged on the table with a handwritten birthday card waiting for me. That quiet, intimate moment of returning to the room and seeing such care taken just for me is something I’ll never forget. The staff at Sankara are exceptional—attentive without being intrusive, intuitive, and genuinely kind. They made sure that everything flowed effortlessly throughout my stay. The spa treatments were the perfect complement to the island’s hikes and nature trails—soothing, grounding, and restorative. It was a great pleasure to stay at the place. The barbecue option is a find! It made our stay unforgettable. The beds were very comfortable, house is spotless, kitchen is functional.
