Stresa is a great base, located about 1/3 of the way up Maggoire and at a wide point where many places of interest are nearby. The boat service from Stresa is varied and frequent, enabling days of cruising to many parts of the lake. A beautiful, relaxed town on the banks of Lake Maggiore. A beautiful promenade along the shore leads into the town centre and lots of restaurants. Stresa was a brilliant place to stay without a car.
Stresa was a brilliant place to stay without a car. We found the s.a.f. shuttlebus from the airport very affordable and efficient and could walk to everywhere that Stresa had to offer or use the many different boat tours to access towns around the lake. The lake views are beautiful, the promenade is full of flowers and the lake is clear, cool and refreshing to swim in, with a number of different access points. The Borromean Islands are well worth a visit. Currently the cable car is not in operation.Guest review byJeanUnited Kingdom

It’s has the balance of both enough to sightsee ( the palace n garden are a must and are the highlight of isola bella island); and restaurants. I’m glad I chose to stay here, the commute to Stresa and the other islands are easy by ferry, which runs plenty and are always on time. Rooms are very clean and I had a lake view which was lovely to wake up to each morning. Un sogno sul Lago was perfect. There was nothing you could fault about the place. Everything is in excellent condition. Cristina and Fabio are fantastic hosts. From special treats being baked to offering to take and pick you up from either the station or local restaurants. Love the location and could never get enough of the views.
