FAQs about hotels in Lecce

A Southern Limestone Gem

Lecce dazzles every visitor offering one of Italy’s best preserved walled historic centres. Its wonders include tasteful traditional cuisine, rich wines, and charming shops. Located near the crystalline waters of both the Adriatic and Ionian beaches, it is a perfect base to explore the Salentine Peninsula.

Its origins are unclear, but it is believed that dates back to the 12th or 11th century BC, when Italic tribes founded a settlement nearby, which Romans later occupied and relocated to its current position. The pages of its history are filled by Byzantine rulers, several invasions, a Norman rebirth, and an annexation to the Kingdom of Sicily.

Its distinctive Baroque style is combined with well-preserved Roman remnants. Don’t miss the historic centre during sunset, when the light creates a perfect contrast between the blue sky and the mild-yellow colour of the limestone buildings. St Oronzo Square houses the Roman Amphitheatre, while the outstanding Holy Cross Basilica is a must. Don’t miss the magic of staying in a hotel or B&B in Lecce’s Old Town.

The city is serviced by the local railway station, while Brindisi Airport is 45 km away. Whether you’re searching for rural accommodation in the surroundings of Lecce, a resort on the nearby beaches, or a cosy guest house in the centre, check out the deals available on Booking.com.

Leece is an amazing historical town.

Leece is an amazing historical town. It is wonderful to see how the buildings are being preserved with such care and attention to detail and that there is so much excavation activity going on to preserve the history for generations to come. The restaurants were serving amazing and authentic Italian dishes which made our stay even more enjoyable.

    Beautiful and interesting town.

Beautiful and interesting town. We spent most of our time in the old town. It's a lovely place to get lost in! The building architecture, all the detail everywhere, the Roman ruins, the churches/cathedrals ... just amazing. I recommend taking a tour if you're able to. (The smaller the group, the better!) Cafes, bars, and restaurants abound. There are lots of touristy stores, but some higher quality and artisan places to be found if you look. I'd love to go back and spend more time there!

    We enjoyed Lecce very much.

We enjoyed Lecce very much. The city is large enough to explore but small enough to not be overwhelmed. The architecture is beyond gorgeous. We had some of our favorite meals here. Lecce is a great place to stay as a home base to explore the Salento region. We did not have a car & were limited to what we could see. However there are many day tours that leave from Lecce. Book early because we were closed out of a few.

Lovely City from what we seen of it.

Lovely City from what we seen of it. Buzzing atmosphere and mixture of old and new architecture. So many beautiful restaurants to choose from. We weren't there long enough though so plan to return next year

    Lecce is a great base.

Lecce is a great base. It is a point of interest in itself but is also very centrally located to access Otranto and Gallipoli easily. Great restaurants but most open after 7pm which seemed odd not to adjust this based on the tourists they are serving - comment I heard from many.

There are so many eloquent descriptions of Lecce, its buildings, its food culture and friendly, welcoming, residents. I found them all to be accurate for the old town, but also for the more residential areas around the university where I stayed for over a week. In truth, the historical highlights, and great food could adequately be covered in 3/4 days, but the deeper wanderings around the town, enjoying the fantastic antiquity collections of Museo Sigismondo Castromediano could not be adequately enjoyed in that time. So, if you do have time, kick back a little, explore beyond the obvious and enjoy the relaxed charm on offer. Restaurants filled with different takes on classics, or into the traditional family filled eateries which abound outside the centre. A lovely place!

Luxury House Lecce was fabulous. Located right on Saint Oronzo Square with a balcony overlooking the square meant we were right in the old town with ease of walking to everything we wanted. The actual apartment was amazing. Very large and very contemporary with high ceilings giving an excellent feeling of space, we loved it.

Location in Lecce old town was perfect. Close to a wide selection of restaurants and bars as well as the character of the old town. Great place to base yourself to look at some of the other town in Puglia.

Fantastic boutique hotel in central Lecce. Super friendly and professional staff. We requested an extra fan to cook the room and they bought a new one right away. Highly recommended
