FAQs about hotels in Bologna

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.

Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

Bologna is a beautiful city with wonderful architecture, churches history and museums. Though there are tourists, it is comfortable and has none of the overcrowded scenes of the major cities. The food, the food. Bologna has some of the best. Their Ragu sauce, tortellini soup, and the lasagna are well worth the trip. The basilica, San Petronio, is filled with history, beauty and controversy. Santo Stefano Church a is a wonderful contrast in simplicity and worship. A trip up to the Sanctuary of Madonna di San Luca either by tour trin or by foot (LONG uphill climb) is a must. the views of the surrounding country side along with the spectacular art and grandeur of the church were a highlight.

Apart from the towers (which you can only look at) and the main square (with the wonderful fountain), it's not packed with sites unless you love art museums. I was disgusted by the graffiti, which was everywhere across the city, with plenty of homeless-looking people smoking weed (in front of the cathedral). I have been all over Italy and really wouldn't come back here ever again and I never thought I'd say that about an Italian city but it is just horrible..

Magnificent historic sites, churches and museums.

Magnificent historic sites, churches and museums. The Palazzo dell’Archiginnasio where you can visit the il Teatro Anatomico and the Biblioteca Comunale, when it is open, are a must see! Food is great, but pricey, which makes sense in the heart of the city. All sites are at walking distance, however, there is also a great bus service. Just make sure you are standing at the right direction and have checked the bus schedule for that line. You can combine a day trip to Florence, which is only 20 minutes by train, and not only. There are plenty of destinations reachable by train around Bologna and all worth visiting.

The public transport is convinient. The food is amazing. I didn't took any guided tour and I regret it. I was there 8 days and I think it is a city that can offer a lot more, both culinary and historical places worth. Definitely comming back!

Bologna is definitely a beautiful city.

Bologna is definitely a beautiful city. Wander on foot and discover many beautiful spots hidden in the narrow streets of the city. At the moment, there are tram works going on, and several streets are closed. Some landmarks are also under maintenance, such as the statue of Neptune and the Two Towers, so you might not be able to see them properly. On Sunday, there are neither buses nor taxis running in the old town. Get your bus tickets in advance, because it’s difficult to find tickets in the city center.

I would recommend the walking tour, which is about 2-hours and very informative. It also helps highlight places you might like to return to to look at in more detail. The centre of Bologna is fairly small, so one can see a lot without having to walk too far. We found sitting with a drink on the piazza Santo Stefano was a relaxing way to pass the time, and the prices for meals felt very reasonable. October felt like a very pleasant time to visit - not too hot, but warm enough.

It’s worth the money for short stays. It is a modern, funky 3 star hotel part of the UNA group. Very well located for travellers across from Bologna Centrale. Young, helpful staff with good English. Room was large and very quiet with fresh air as one could leave the window open. The breakfast was adequate and the staff were responsive if there was anything not working or needing to be addressed. The staff was also helpful in providing suggestions and any other information you may require.

Me and my friend had an amazing first time in Italy experience thanks to this wonderful apartment located in a walking distance from the city center. The apartment is clean, with comfy bed and a nice balcony. The owners helped us to get from the airport late at night and we sincerely thank them for that. It was an unforgettable trip that left us wanting to see more in Italy. For people visiting Bologna, Cortesia 4 is the best choice.

Very central hotel in the middle of the old part of the city. Surprisingly easy to reach by car and a great locked car park at the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff and good breakfast. Clean and large rooms. For a nice dinner or glass of wine very close to the hotel we had the restaurant InCantina just 100 m away recommended by the hotel. Highly recommended. Very close to almost all sights in Bologna

Not just a hotel. It s a project!!! Friendly and polite staff, very clean, safe and everything well organized. Loved the bed and the bathroom. The location is fantastic, 3 minutes walking from Bologna Centrale so you can take the Marconi Express to the airport and trains to many destinations to Italy. I wish we could stay a couple of days more….

This is the perfect hotel. I stayed as I was travelling on business to attend meetings at the University of Bologna. The hotel was conveniently located to my meetings, lots of restaurants, cafes and shops nearby. This is proper Italy - not a modern built hotel which could be located anywhere in the world.
