The rooms are surprisingly spacious - much larger than in most places I’ve stayed. The receptionist (I regret not asking their name) was incredibly helpful and had a great sense of humour. The private balcony was also a lovely bonus - perfect for relaxing.

Everything was just right, starting with the lovely courtyard at the entrance. The building was very well finished - beautiful flooring; lighting just right with switches and sockets where they should be. The bedroom was small but well laid out and comfortable. The bathroom was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet included fresh fruit and was so much better than the average Italian hotel breakfast. And the price was unbeatable.

Important Port of Saintly Significance

The Apulian capital Bari has been known for its port since Roman times. Nowadays there are 2 harbours:  cruise ships and ferries to Greece and Croatia depart from the new port, while the old port shelters fishing vessels.

Between them is a seafront road bordering the real attraction – the old town. Narrow, cobbled streets lead under arches to hidden piazzas with pavement cafes. Many are on adjoining Piazza Mercantile and Piazza del Ferrarese, where the old Roman road is exposed.

The imposing 12th-century Norman-Swabian Castle guards the west of the historic centre, and the simple Cathedral of San Sabino is from the same period. Equally understated is the Basilica of St Nicholas, housing relics of the saint. Pope John Paul II once prayed there, which may have given rise to Bari Airport’s name: Karol Wojtyła Airport.

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the meeting point of the old town and the Murat district, built under orders of Napoleon’s brother-in-law. Facing each other across this street are the colourful façades of the municipal office and Piccinni Theatre, though most prestigious is the Petruzzelli Theatre opera house.

Booking.com’s Bari accommodation includes luxury hotels by the Fiera del Levante, cheap city centre apartments, and B&Bs near the train station. For families, the slides and swimming pools of Bari Acquapark make a great day out.

    Felt unsafe at times. Too touristy, even for us. Not enough variety of foods. Unless doing a tour of some sort, there was only shopping to do. Easy to get around. Streets were paved well and were kept exceptionally clean. Loved that you can be in the tourist area and then a couple of streets away you will find where the locals live and where they do their daily shopping etc.

    The old town of Bari is lovely with lots of winding, small streets and places to eat are plenty. The cathedral's crypte is worthwhile visiting. What we noticed is that a lot of inhabitants also in the food and drinks business don't speak English very well.

    Bari is a beautiful city with plenty to do and see. The local buses will bring you outside to experience other areas for €1 per journey, the best way to get around and explore especially the coast line.

    Bari has everything- beautiful Old Town, public beach, good shops, amazing food. It is well positioned to explore the area around it, especially if you teams a car. Only 25min from the airport by taxi and a fixed price of EUR 25.

    This was a return trip to Puglia for my husband and I.

    This was a return trip to Puglia for my husband and I. We were joined by a group of friends for our stay in Ostuni. Any stay in Puglia is easy to reach from the Bari airport. Bari is a clean, safe, vibrant city with both modern and ancient areas. Food is great! Recommend some sort of tour (we did rickshaw) to orient yourself and learn more about the important sites and history. Kind of sad to see the beautiful building where Benneton was located is now closed as well as the Teatro Margherita.

    There are many activities in and around Bari.

    There are many activities in and around Bari. We explored two UNESCO sites about an hour from Bari, but later discovered many attractions in Bari city that we didn't know about. The city was clean and seemed safe enough.

    We recently stayed at JR Hotels in Bari, expecting a 5-star experience, but unfortunately, the reality fell a bit short of that rating. While there were definite highlights, several aspects prevented it from truly feeling like a luxury accommodation. On the positive side, the views from the hotel were absolutely stunning. Additionally, the breakfast offered was excellent. There was a wide variety of fresh, delicious options, and the quality of the food was certainly a highlight of our stay.

    The best hotel you can find in Bari. Excellent location near the Sparano area with all the shops nearby. Large spacious and clean rooms with new furniture. The room included an abundant and delicious breakfast. Very qualified and hospitable staff. Agata, the lady who was in charge of management, was very kind and available for any need we had.

    One of the best hosts I have met in my many years of travelling. Miki and his family were exceptionally helpful throughout my stay. Great price and great location.
