Very cosy cottage with a wonderful view towards the mountains. We were a family of 4 with little space and loved it. Small modern and sufficient kitchen were we ate breakfast and cooked easy dinner (one cooking plate).

Nestled between the rugged southern coast of Iceland and the majestic Eyjafjallajökull volcano, UMI Hotel is an absolute gem. The design strikes a perfect balance between modern minimalism and cozy Icelandic charm, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. I was really impressed by how comfortable and well-equipped is this location. Starting with the staff who were very friendly, continuing with the location of the hotel, which is to 5 minutes from the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall. The hotel has a restaurant with a great panorama towards to the waterfall. The food is delicious and varied. Warm greetings and many thanks to Octavian from restaurant for his kindness and pleasant conversation.

This hotel is at the foot of a stunning hill next to the Drangshlid rock. The pictures don't do it justice—it's so much more beautiful in person. It's right off the highway and only a minute's drive from the amazing Skógafoss. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful. Breakfast was beyond expectations, and you get to access the dining hall all day with a stunning view for coffee and tea. I couldn't be happier with my stay!

Very welcoming host with fresh baked chocolate cake and cookies and information. The room was excellent. The view from accommodation across the water was stunning, and the waterfalls up behind the property equally fantastic. This was a Booking.com moment.

I am so very happy with our stay at ChickenCoop. The position is amazing, like right out of an National Geographic Picture. It was so peaceful and relaxing, only thing I could hear was the little stream outside our house! House itself was beautifully arranged inside, very comfortable and clean. Bathroom was very spacious! I was very pleased to find coffe, oil, tea and other things useful for cooking, as I completely forgot to buy oil 🙄 . Communication with owner was flawless! Directions for check in were very clear. If you are looking for a place were to stay while driving on the ring road, look no further, this place is perfect! ❤ Can't wait to come back soon!

What guests said about Eyvindarhólar:

2.0

The so-called “self-checkin” was a disaster.

The so-called “self-checkin” was a disaster. Two other couples arrived at the same time as us, and none of us had any idea how to find our gain access to our rooms. There was a free phone “help line in the foyer but that went straight to voicemail. We luckily ran into an American couple who had checked in the previous day, and they advised how the system worked. They said that I would get an email from our agent (booking.com). I said I had checked the evening before and there was nothing. They advised that this notification was only sent out a couple of hours before planned check in - which I would rate as useless, since many travellers rely on the WiFi provided at their hotel, and ther was no indication of how to get onto the WiFi on arrival. A “staff member” eventually arrived, but he could hardly speak English (he was apparently Bulgarian) and he was no help. He also refused to carry my girlfriend’s suitcase upstairs (there was no elevator), claiming a bad back (which miraculously healed up when we left). The shower was a joke. You literally had to run around to get wet. The were a small number of needle-thin jets, with low water-pressure. The toilet seat was a cheap plastic thing, the sort of style you would expect to see in a back-packer’s. The was only one dispenser on the shower, to cover soap and shampoo. There was a balcony, but the lock on the door didn’t work, making a potential security risk. The hotel came up in a search for hotels in Vik, but was about 60k’s away (however that turned out to be a plus for us. All in all, the way the hotel was run seemed to focus on providing the minimum at the lowest possible cost. No customer focus at all. There was a TV but we could not get it to work at all. Maybe it would have worked if we had some sort of streaming service contract (I.e Prime or Netflix, etc) but we don’t have any of them.
