Akranes is a pleasant community within east driving distance to Reykjavik. Accommodations there are less expensive compared to the surrounding are but also are not as updated. There was one good sit-down restaurant in the town. The public swimming pool was nice and there a public geothermal baths on the beach there. When the fish factory opens, whole portions of the town stink of fish. If you are looking for more affordable accommodation for a one night stop, this town is a good option, but there is not much to see and do in the town itself.

Akranes is one of our favorite day trips from Reykjavík.
Akranes is one of our favorite day trips from Reykjavík. We usually take the bus out and back, although I could see it being a great longer stop for non-locals too. It is much quieter with far less tourist traffic than other towns around Iceland. The lighthouse is a delight. It is open to the public most days and has amazing acoustics. The lighthouse keeper invites folks to sing or play instruments and will happily accommodate musicians who want to record there! There are also wonderful beaches and a public pool by the ocean. The museum is also lovely. We walk the town for the trip, but I could see a car being useful as well.

very nice and comfortable house. in a beautiful place. friendly and helpful owners. The house is small but we didn't need more space to have a perfect stay. there is a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. It is very hot inside (you can make it less hot if you want). Location is good for a start/end of a trip in the west Iceland, and in the evening you can go for a nice walk to a mountain or beach or city of Akranes. PS. it was extremely windy during our stay but you cannot predict the weather in Iceland 🙂

Overall, the place is nice to stay for a short vacation. It has heating, hot and cold water, bathroom, shower, fridge, TV. It is in quite a remote area, so it is a very quite place. Two towns, Akranes and Borgarness are reasonably close. Also, there are many attractions around Hvalfjord and Borgarfjord. Reykjavik is around 1 hour drive away.

It basically feels like living in a local Icelandic house rather than "guesthouse".
Super lovely couple running the place makes the stay extra pleasant!
Sulfur smelling hot water is probably not a desired thing for locals, but made us feel like in a thermal facility :)
Laundry room was very convenient.

I loved the location, front-sea with wide green fields behind. Less than 10 mins by car from Akranes, not that far from Reykjavik. The guesthouse is elegant and clean, I appreciated the abundant disposable of towels for the guests. The kitchen's fully equipped. Mornings on the terrace are awesome!
