Absolutely fantastic family owned place. Located in a typical Chettinadu palace but renovated to a highest standards. You feel yourself as a maharaja guest. Each room has it’s own design, modern yet authentic. Our room was impeccably clean, I checked the top of the glass bathroom doors and even there were no dust! The food is amazing and different every day (we stayed two nights), the stuff is responsive and nice, the massage was very good too.

Visalam is a century-old lovingly-restored palatial home in Kanadukathan village of the Chettinad region in Tamil Nadu.

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay at Visalam. Very beautiful art deco house : authenticity and charm. Excellent place with a very kind and professional team. Food excellent too : all is local and tasty. We loved to have breakfast in the garden, lunch at the pool and dinner on the terrace. Pool area is very pleasant too. The hotel propose visits and activities, we did the heritage walk, cycling tour and temple tour..all were very nice. It was also very easy to discuss with the other guests, probably because the atmosphere of the house was harmonius. Phenomenal stay in chidambara vilas. The hospitality was so warm, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The restaurant staff took such special care of my daughter's order. I cannot recommend this hotel enough! The people and history of this place were just amazing. The banana leaf lunch was the best we had in our India trip!

Amazing staff, host was really helpful to provide the information, staff was polite , helped in hiring Auto and suggested good places. The room was clean and tidy, they were gracious enough to provide early check in, initially I was sceptical to book as this didn't have any reviews , but booked it anyway, it was the best stay in our budget in Chettinad style architecture.

Kavita the receptionist was simply the best of her kind: welcoming, friendly, informative, inquisitive with a heartwarming life story too. The place itself was charming. Large, clean and comfortable room. Breakfast in nearby Chettinadu Mansion was ample and good, as was dinner there too. Kanadukathan is a fabulous and unique place in India with its magnificent Chettinadu mansions. An oasis of calm from normal hectic India.
