FAQs about hotels in Cork

Irish Spirit In A Nutshell

Situated on the banks of the River Lee, Cork’s city centre was originally built on marshes and many of its popular streets are constructed on the former river channels. With a thriving nightlife and a vibrant cultural scene, the Irish Republic’s second biggest city is full of surprises.

Those interested in history should pay a visit to the Cork City Gaol, an old prison transformed into one of the city’s most fascinating attractions, or join the Cork Historic Walking Tours, which offer a great opportunity to learn all the city’s secrets.

For those craving more lively entertainment, the city offers the famous Cork City Pub Crawl or even more exciting, the Barrack Street Challenge, where participants drink pints of beer in all bars along Barrack Street.

The shopping area is concentrated around the most famous street - St. Patrick Street. For local food specialities like crubeens, tripe and drisheen, browse bars and restaurants around MacCurtain, Washington and Oliver Plunkett Streets.

When flying to Cork Airport, you’re just a short taxi or bus ride from the lively city centre. Don’t worry about accommodation; Booking.com has plenty on offer, from convenient hotels, to cosy guest houses and bed & breakfasts.

As a Londoner, Cork felt like a much larger version of Carnaby Street; vibrant and colourful with plenty of live street music. Public transport was pretty good and using the TFI Live App for getting around via bus was very easy to use. Lots of places to choose from to eat and drink and walking around (for me during the day) felt safe and relaxing. Driving is a bit of an experience; all the major surrounding roads and quite a few connecting ones had speed camera enforcement applied to them. As a first time visitor and tourist this was quite overwhelming as the Satnav was a sea of white and red lines. Speed, road and other safety signs needed a bit of familiarisation before hand; as they would for driving in any new city of the first time. Arrival for me was via Cork International Airport; shocking queues at the Avis/Budget Car Hire Desk owing, in part, to the Payless Car Hire staff not being around and visitors being directed to the Avis/Budget Desk. Inbound passengers subject to passport control which caused a bit of a delay. No obvious toilets between airside and passport control so bear that in mind if your travel needs require access to 'facilities' Not unusual I guess as compared other destinations and the timing with other inbound flights might have been unlucky on this occasion. Flew Air Lingus from Heathrow which was punctual and overall a low-stress experience. Can't really beat the National Flag Carriers when it comes to airlines! Enjoyed a short visit to Blarney Castle; opted not to join the long wait to see/kiss the Blarney Stone. In part due to having spent quite enough time hanging around to pick up the Hire-Car. Plenty to see elsewhere, the caves under the castle are fascinating and the grounds/gardens are beautiful. Well worth a visit.

Our hotel was in a good location but didn’t meet expectations. Cork City traffic is tribally manic and should be avoided. One way systems and aggressive drivers! Some great bars, some fine restaurants (Paradiso and Soltan were impressive) and Fort Elizabeth and the English Market should not be missed.

Lots to do around the city and outside. A lot of gigs and an active night life. A car is a must if you want to see the natural beauty around the city. The city gaol is a must. Very eye opening in a depressing sort of way but really makes you appreciate being born in this century!

Cork is a fantasy and vibrant city.

Cork is a fantasy and vibrant city. We did not expect much as we were mostly only staying as a jump off towards West Cork and Kerry but we ended up staying longer. It has a wonderful character and charm and really packs a punch for a city of its size. I will definitely be returning.

We loved staying in Cork - a vibrant city with an inclusive and welcoming vibe. We enjoyed local sites such as the English Market and Marina Market, stunning views from city parks, the vibrant and beautifully restored historic downtown, and learning about Irish history. We also appreciated proximity to day trips including Cobh and the stunningly beautiful Ring of Kerry. We would definitely return and had a fabulous experience in Cork!

We stayed for a night on our way to West Cork. The property is located close to the City Centre with bus stops right at the gate. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was great. We booked a second night for our return journey. The hotel is in the process of renovating the rooms the second room we stayed in had a fresh bathroom which enhanced the experience. We would definitely stay here again.

It’s a beautiful modern hotel within walking distance of Cork city centre. Food is excellent and nice atmosphere throughout the hotel. Looks like an excellent gym and pool facilities. Overnight parking next door a reasonable €9.50 for 24hr. The reception area and restaurant were buzzing with activity but that didn’t filter to the rooms in anyway. We really liked it and would stay again when in Cork.

The location is nice and central and everything in the city centre is easily reached. The staff are friendly, the rooms are decent and overall, it is a good hotel. I did not have breakfast so I cannot comment on that.
