United KingdomRooms are clean, food is not bad, staff are helpful and will recommend good guides to Baliem trekking that so not charge you a fortune. Consider that if you book through agencies before arriving in Wamena, you get the same guides but at extortionate prices (maybe it's unavoidable if you visit during the festival...).
Overall, if you are here for trekking , I suggest you stay at the hotel, despite the negatives below. Wamena is not a luxury retreat, so I doubt other places will be that better and bug free (you are in the middle of the jungle after all)

DenmarkSonja and her husband went far beyond what was expected helping us with everything from visiting villages, calling a medical clinic, breakfast at very early hours as well as driving us to restaurants and the airport.The communication went smoothly as they both speak very good English. The expirence would have been different if we had not stayed with them. Thank you for everything 🙏
