I grew up near Whitstable and having moved away from Kent 20 years ago, I always love visiting this area again when visiting family in Canterbury/Whitstable. The town has developed nicely - it makes the most of the harbour area and the town itself now has some lovely boutique shops and a good range of interesting places to visit, including some lovely restaurants and cafes. There's always a buzz there and I enjoy being there, whatever the weather. It's not somewhere I'd choose for sunbathing (not that sort of beach) but for shopping, eating, general wandering and taking in some sights, it's always a lovely place to visit.

Whitstable is pleasant seaside town.

Whitstable is pleasant seaside town. It has many small independent shops which means a better variety of goods are available. The high street is narrow but has two way traffic. This problem is mitigated by having many road crossing points and is a 20mph zone. There is a good variety of restaurants, cafes and tea shops to suit any budget. It is a great place to visit.

There are lots of nice places to eat and drink and they are particularly good for seafood. There's also a lot of independent shops selling interesting things which makes the town different to others. You can walk easily along the seafront on paved walkway and enjoy lovely views out to sea.

Loads of restaurants in town but parking is a problem.

Loads of restaurants in town but parking is a problem. Personally I liked Herne Bay. Lovely views and atmosphere. Best place to eat is The Hampton Inn. Excellent food at great prices. You need to book.

Whitstable has a lot to offer, great beaches, independent shops (plus a few good chain shops), cafes and restaurants, super dog friendly and wonderful locals! If you are looking for a quick getaway from where you are, then Whitstable is a fabulous option! I go virtually every year with my dogs for a break, beach walks, retail therapy, eating, drinking and relaxing. Whitstable has it all with a cherry on top!!

The staff were exceptional. We arrived on Father's day a busy time for the hotel but they still went out of their way to make us feel very welcome. We had come to Whitstable for the oysters and lobsters and even though it wasn't on their menu the staff in restaurant prepared two nights of seafood. Thank you again for a relaxing three days

Clean , quirky place to stay in Whitstable in the heart of everything. Check in was quick and easy at the Continental Hotel. Nice bed linen and clean large towels. Complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits etc was a nice touch and also the water and juice in the fridge.

Penny Lodge - Retro apartment stay on the water front in Whitstable. A 3 bedroom apartment straight out of the 70's (in a cool way) with breakfast for 3 for less than a a standard hotel room elsewhere. Great value.
