GermanyBurnthwaite Farm B&B is nestled in one of the most stunningly beautiful locations in all of England. It’s a working farm that feels like it stepped straight out of the pages of a classic novel. The very first building a walker sees when descending into Wasdale from Sty Head and Great Gable, it offers exactly the kind of welcome you’d hope for from a traditional Lakeland B&B.
The building itself is wonderfully old, and if any modern conveniences are missing, that’s entirely due to its age, which more than compensates with charm. Equally warm and welcoming is the proprietor, Georgina, who ensures every guest experiences true Lakeland hospitality.
The B&B is just a short walk from the famous Wasdale Head Inn if you fancy a pint, though the cozy lounge also offers a great place to relax with other guests. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast hearty, and the packed lunch generous. And, shockingly, the internet was perfectly fine (though honestly, who needs it here?).
I’ll absolutely choose Burnthwaite again the next time I’m in Wasdale. In fact, I’ll go out of my way to return, and this time, I’ll treat the owners to a pint, because I’d love to hear more about life and sheep farming in one of the most breathtaking corners of England.
