St. Austell is a working town not really a vacation destination. But it has excellent transport facilities - bus and train to all the major Cornwall attractions and is perfect for the Eden Project. I couldn’t find a Tescos or similar.

Buses to the Eden project left from the railway station which was 5minutes away. No buses to the Heligan gardens on a Sunday so had to take taxis. Great hotel next door - food was excellent and there was a Saturday cabaret which was excellent easy to get around St Austell

The town itself seemed tired and dreary.

The town itself seemed tired and dreary. It was hard to find the 'centre' - you need to park at Priory Car Park then walk. The surrounding area has plenty to see. Recommend Wheal Martyn Clay works (and Eden Project, of course!)

The best places to visit were Mevagissey and Charlestown, they both had an old world charm. Fowey was too commercialised and we failed to find somewhere to eat in Looe on Tuesday evening, which was surprising as it looked like a lovely place to spend some time.

St Austell town centre is dated and needs some TLC , but around the ring round is everything you need to make your stay great. Big Asda, lots of resteraunts, and the usual chains. There is some amazing beaches, countryside, walks in and around St Austell. And , it's a brilliant base for all things Cornwall, very well connected. Carlyon and Petewan beaches are fantastic. All in all, really good.

Lovely location for travelling around Cornwall. Host was very friendly. Rooms were great, comfortable bed but have to be careful if you’re tall as lots of sloping ceilings around the hotel. Used the swimming pool which was very nice, great breakfast with lots of choice. Lovely and quiet hotel. Also had a lovely spa treatment on the day of arrival - therapist was lovely, friendly and very good.

Sometimes a second stay in a hotel can be disappointing, not live up to the memories. With the carlyon bay hotel that's absolutely not the case. Everything was wonderful, and the staff were extremely good.
