The decor was stunning, Location was quiet and private, lovely and clean, very comfortable and Damien was so helpful, accommodating and quick with responses to any questions we had. I'm very glad we followed his recommendation to eat at the red lion...food was incredible! The property is very romantic for couples and also spacious outside for children. I loved it there so much, that we decided to stay an extra night. So relaxing and peaceful.

People are friendly and the Saturday market day is a real treat. Easy to walk around although a lot of moving traffic in the centre. We found food in restauants was hit and miss with Google reviews definitely over rating Meze and Goat+Grass. Eight Bells did a very good Sunday lunch.

Saffron Walden is a lovely little old town.

Saffron Walden is a lovely little old town. There are things to see there and in the immediate area, e.g. Audley End House and a splendid Parish Church. The town is also close to the motorway and Stansted Airport, so easy to get to.

A pretty village which has benefitted from traffic free...

A pretty village which has benefitted from traffic free areas and one-way streets. Parking not an issue if you are prepared to walk a little way into the centre. At least, it does stop cars parking along streets which are too narrow to accommodate them. Nice to see a wide range of independent shops and not just the usual range.

Lovely compact market town with lots of history.

Lovely compact market town with lots of history. We downloaded a walking tour which had some interesting sites to visit. There is a tourist information office in the market square which is a short walk from The Cross Keys where we stayed.

A stunning town, would have liked to have more time to look...

A stunning town, would have liked to have more time to look around. Had a great lunch at Gluttons and was lucky to catch the market on Saturday morning. Lots of different shops to see but just loved walking through the town, narrow streets, lovely church and just a huge array of beautiful old buildings. Very good coffee at the Chocolate shop and a good Waitrose for supplies.

We were only staying in Saffron Walden because I was taking...

We were only staying in Saffron Walden because I was taking part in a concert at Saffron Hall but had a walk around in the morning. We were impressed by the number of independent coffee/cake shops and independent shops in general. The Saturday market had lots of interesting stalls, beautifully laid out fruit and veg stalls, fantastic pastry and cake stall with long queues. Lovely examples of old properties with pargetting. We could have spent longer wandering around the town if it hadn't been for the rain! The Swan meadow car park was good, cheap and felt safe as it had CCtV cameras and good lighting at night. Very easy to pay for more parking remotely using the phone app.

The house was amazing! We were only here for a 1 night stay to go to a concert nearby and only wish we had longer to relax and explore! The location in the middle of Saffron Walden is fabulous and the house was pristine and very comfortable. We will be back for a longer stay!

Excellent place to stay in Saffron Walden. Small number of rooms over a typical English pub. The pub has good lunch and dinner menus and a selection of good beers and wines. Good choice for breakfast. Service is excellent and wanted for nothing.
