I liked the hiking opportunities that started right at the doorstep. Also William Wordsworth's Rydal Mount was within about 200 metres uphill. As the bus stop was at the doorstep, we did not need a car at all! We sometimes walked, sometimes took the bus to Ambleside where there are several restaurants and grocery shops. In Rydal Lodge you live in the Lake District athmosphere without a need of going anywhere, but it is easy to reach any attraction you want by bus. We visited Windermere, Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside, Grassmere and Keswick.

The accommodation did not match our expectations based on the pictures and past reviews on booking.com. The public rooms ( lounge, library) were abysmal, with cat litter tray, damp, lack of carpets, grubby furniture etc. Then the bedrooms ( 4 in total) either showers didn’t work or had damp. Breakfast ok but shambolic- getting a pot of breakfast tea was a feat and the coffee non drinkable. All in all diabolical for the price paid (£270/room/ 2 nights). We have stayed in many places in the Lake District and can honestly say this was our worst experience.

Cabin 3 at Rydal is not a 4 star Hotel but an off grid cabin in the Hills, its a fairly strenuous walk from the car park and has no electric or running water but it is in our opinion PERFECT!!! Don't book it if you like all the creature comforts but book it if you like getting back to nature. Absolutely Awesome place. The toilets/showers are always clean and tidy,if you have a low/wide sporty car you will hate the entrance road as it is very rough, the view from Cabin 3 is also Beautiful, a really relaxing place. Roll on next year!!

The room we booked, a superior double' and a single were not the ones we were given and when we complained we were told they were all the same. There was no ''mountain view'' that we were promised, in fact you could only see out of the window if you stood on a chair. The bathroom was minute and you could hardly turn round in it. The bed and duvet etc were nowhere near as good as the photos on website. We were completely mis sold these rooms. The breakfast was just ok but the hot food and drinks were tepid at best, the croissants were hard, The hotel closes down at 9pm and you need a password to get in and the bar was self service after 9pm. No tv in rooms and if you go into the lounge to watch you are warned to turn sound down to cater to those who read in there. We feel that potential customers should be aware of these restrictions.

The views and walks we’re amazed, downside to the property is solar lighting, we had no lights for a day as battery’s needed changing, would be better if you could drive upto cabin 3 as the Treck up the hill was horrible, also would benefit from some sort of lighting leading up to cabins. No electricity

Kind of disappointed as the hut was smaller than expected, feel like it should of stated about solar power and give instructions about usage. Lights constantly going out was a bit poor. A non communicative owner who didn’t respond to emails unless money was involved. A shame really; wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Very pricy and completely not worth the money we paid
