Rugby is not in very good condition, its shabby and old, the council should be ashamed of themselves. It was a great town and now it’s almost derelict, with some very odd people hanging around, I would not stay in Rugby town, hence me booking Dunchurch.

Rugby is a pretty little town with some history.

Rugby is a pretty little town with some history. Most shopping is now in small retail estates on the outskirts, allowing for larger premises and stock. This means the towh centre has small cosy cafes drinking holes and a smattering of charity shops.

A great gallery with international artists showing work.

A great gallery with international artists showing work. Very pleasant library and museum with cafe selling very homemade quiches. The town is full of places to drink and eat. It has a range of buildings of interest and of course the school and its history. It is easy to visit surrounding countryside and canal side activities. Access from the motorway makes it a great half way to the north if coming from London or South East.

We needed to be in the vicinity and but for the appalling weather that weekend I could have spent a few hours happily looking round, but I wouldn't choose Rugby as a place to visit. However, the Draycote Hotel is such good value and so well situated that I would stay there again as a base for places nearby.

There are some wonderful quirky shops in Rugby and the laneways and buildings have wonderful architect and history. Wonderful bookshop in the city centre, worth just going in to experience how they fit so much into the shop. Dalias bistro is also a unique place to go and eat, the food is very good and it is family run which makes a difference. So much to see if you just go exploring.

It was about 20 years since I had been to Rugby.

It was about 20 years since I had been to Rugby. Lots of changes, but the main shopping streets seem to be doing okay, certainly in comparison to other towns of similar size that I have visited recently. Whilst there are lots of fast food shops, nail bars, barbers and charity shops, there is also a good selection of restaurants, cafés and independent shop. There was also a small market in the centre on the Saturday morning. I suspect the presence of Rugby School brings significant benefits to the town.
