Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely comfy bed. Room was big enough with a shower; and kettle tea/coffe provided. Beautiful old building just wish I had time to explore the grounds. Really easy to get to from Whiston hospital which was a bonus.

Staff enthusiastic to help but generally inexperienced and lacking in training. For example: reception check in took far too long because of telephone priority -our arrival and wasn't even acknowledged. Restaurant staff were overworked which caused delays and mistakes. Basic heating in bedroom from an electric wall heater but no heating at all in the bathroom (a major issue in the winter). However, as the cost was quite low, overall we got slightly more than we paid for.

Very clean . Beautiful surroundings. Comfortable.

Very clean . Beautiful surroundings. Comfortable. Not very warm especially dining room had to eat evening meal with coats on . Evening bar staff refused us a cup of coffee having already had one and then sent another person to their room to make one in their room and bring it back to their company sitting in the bar . And they were elderly. So not very good . Bar could of stayed open a little longer .... admittedly it was about 10.30pm but when you have been out and you need a nightcap in hotel even if just a cuppa not good .

The communication between the me and the host was very good.

The communication between the me and the host was very good. Mel was responsive and any questions I had, prior to arrival, were answered quickly. On arrival I was able to park in the driveway as previously arranged. Mel greeted me in a friendly and welcoming manner at the door and showed me to the room, which was clean, tidy, light and airy, tastefully decorated and had all the items that were mentioned on the initial booking of this room. The ensuite shower room was nice and clean too, something that is my bug-bear (if not cleaned properly) whenever I have stayed in places before. I will definitely book with her again when I am next up that neck of the woods. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

Awful and nothing like the rooms that are advertised, absolutely disgraceful to advertise a certain standard then offer the awful dated dirty rooms as per my photos attached.booked on booking.com and filtered hotels with a spa, upon arrival I was told the spa was shut! No tv working on first room and then put into an underground room with 3 double beds, no lamps or wast bin and can only be described as a very dated dorm style.

Great location, easy access, and superb communication. Gorgeous decoration, comfortable cosy lounge area. Furnished to high standard. Great surprise to find a pint of milk in the fridge for a cup of tea. Everything you need for a short stay is provided. Have already recommended to friends and family. Rainhill and nearby Prescot have some wonderful restaurants and the Shakespear theatre.

absolutely shocking experience! I was contacted at 3pm on the day of arrival and advised that due to an electrical problem in the room my reservation was cancelled. The hotel clerk advised me the hotel was full and no alternative was offered. He then ended the call by saying ‘enjoy your evening’!! unbelievable!!

was unsure following some reviews stating the hotel was noisy, tired etc etc. Turned out to be a charming, characterful hotel with great staff, food and bedroom.
