FAQs about hotels in Portsmouth

Royal Dockyard of the British Isles

An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.

In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.

The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.

For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

The road system is difficult to navigate without electronic assistance ,a few areas look a limited tired and dated. The park where the war memorial stands has 2 excellent small cafes, what was the former tennis club have a delicious range of snacks and small meals and is also dog friendly. Not the most cost friendly but the service and quality of the food was excellent. Washroom facilities very good. Seating was comfortable and laid out to give welcoming atmosphere. Generally I would give this a solid 8.5 the only downside as the food was cooked to order a little longer than expected wait for the food

Pompy has something for everyone.

Pompy has something for everyone. There's history at the dockyards and in old Portsmouth. There are modern shopping centres. There are beaches. Transport links are very good (hovercraft and ferry to Isle of Wight and Europe).

We came to visit the RN Dockyard.

We came to visit the RN Dockyard. We spent 3 days of the trip at various exhibits...submarine museum, Mary Rose, HMS Warrior and M33. Could have spent another day potentially. We also went to the South Downs around Chichester for a walk - about a 25 minute drive. Some nice pubs around Old Portsmouth and Southsea and interesting seafront walks.

The old port with Ss Victory and the Mary Rose was awesome.

The old port with Ss Victory and the Mary Rose was awesome. We had been told it was not worth a visit. Should have been compulsory ! The restaurant on the edge of the port was stunning. ( Wild and ?? ´Fraud I can’t remember all the name ) The ferry boats almost came into the dining room.

There is plenty to see in Portsmouth.

There is plenty to see in Portsmouth. There is a good range of interesting restaurants, bars and cafes. We did not visit any museums but there are some good ones if you have time. The harbour area is great with lots of different shops.

The equidistance of the Old Portsmouth/Gunwharf Quays and Southsea seaside neighborhoods location of this Holiday Inn is probably its strongest point.Within a 10-15' walking radius, you've got all the action and sightseeings! You can tell that you are in a global. leading Hotel chain, most of the facilities and comfort are there and ticking most boxes.Very clean room and good value for money.

The hotel is located about 6 mins walk from Portsmouth & Southsea station & 20 from the beach/harbour. the hotel is modern with standard Ibis decorating. I was on the 4th floor. The room was a good size & had all I needed. Great blackout curtains & lighting good with several lamps. I ate in the restaurant downstairs & food was good & reasonably priced. You don't have to check out til 12.

Staff friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Excellent cooked breakfast, from a varied menu. Location was very important, having arrived in Portsmouth on the ferry from Spain, this hotel is virtually a straight road from the terminal, a drive that took me six minutes.

Perfect location for our one night stay in Portsmouth. We walked home quickly after a day of shopping at Gunwharf quays and then took the catamaran to isle of wight the next day from Portsmouth Harbour. The apartment was large and comfy. We used the kitchen for dinner.
