If you stay in the area of Portreath that is at the top of...

If you stay in the area of Portreath that is at the top of the hill (Gwel a Mor area) it is particularly difficult to access the main village and beach below unless you have the use of a car. Do not walk on the main road as this is particularly dangerous, it is steep, has blind bends, there are speeding cars, there are no pavements and if you are walking it at night you will need a torch. The alternative routes are either through the Gwel a Mor resort, via the farm and goes through the woods or you take the Green Lane road which is quieter in traffic. There are no local taxi's so it gets difficult to get back to you accommodation at night after the buses cease. The buses are not so regular, about one an hour and finish early on Sundays. The local pub Bassett Arms is excellent for food, entertainment and character. The local Chinese Takeaway was also excellent and reasonably priced with prompt delivery. Good local cafes with good coffee and cakes as well as a more extensive menu. Well stocked convenience store, but no souvenir shop found. The beach was clean and very welcoming. Nice base to visit other parts of Cornwall either by car or public transport.

We were lucky to arrive at Portreath on the day of the Life saving clubs from many adjacent beaches were having contests. All very well organised and good to see the level of interest displayed by the organisers and members.

Stunning Stunning Stunning.

Stunning Stunning Stunning. If your looking for a cute, clean, and not over crowded perfect beach then look no more. The Portreath Arms, and The Atlantic Café & Bar close to the beach were amazing. You can walk up to the PepperPot on the cliff and there are benches up there to see the sea and cliffs. Its breath takingly beautiful. Is it quiet, Yes Is it worth a visit? Definitely. Dogs are also welcome on the beach before 10am and after 6pm. Not far from Portreath is Gwithan beach, if you take the scenic road from Portreath you follow the cliffs to Gwithian and theres multiple places to pull in and see the coastline. Also, we recommend calling at The Hell's Mouth Café to have some Cornish ice cream and pop over the road to see the views. Close by is Hayle, Porthtowan, St Ives and many more places for day trips. There's stunning walks or bike rides across the coast to. Portreath is the perfect base and destination in Cornwall. We cannot wait to go back!

Small yet perfectly formed Cornish Village.

Small yet perfectly formed Cornish Village. Not your quaint fisherman's village but compact with 2 good pubs, good food, nice bakery, beach front cafes that serve great breakfast and superb access to the coastal paths to St Ives and beyond. Obligatory chip shop albeit a very good one that has restaurant seats and is licensed. back is never more than 1 min away. People are warm and friendly,. We really enjoyed Portreath. If you want to chill with a little walking without trying too hard, this is your place.

The village is an eccentric place - there are rows of rather dull modern houses in the very middle of the village. I understood this when I was told they are on the site of the former Coal Yard - served by boats coming into the harbour. Such is history. In fifty years these houses will probably look very picturesque. Other parts of the village are much older. The beach is stormy and exciting in December as a Cornish beach should be. The views from the steep hills on either side are spectacular. The Portreath Arms is a complete delight. I will return in Spring or Summer and look forward to more exploring.

Compact and clean with everything you could need for a short stay. I think there are 3 units and we had the middle one. Bed is great, shower is good, big towels and there is a table with chairs plus armchairs both inside and out on the patio. A lot of thought has gone into providing a comfortable space. Location is perfect and parking was easy. The short drive to the property is narrow and steep but fine for a normal sized car. Short walk into the village and the beach. Portreath is very unspoilt.

A proper Cornish pub which combined traditional decor with lots of modern touches, and excellent food. Very welcoming and the best place I stayed whilst walking 7 days of the SW Coastpath
