Portpatrick is a small village by the sea.

Portpatrick is a small village by the sea. Most hotels are within a short walking distance of the harbour. There are cliffs on either side of the seafront that provide stunning views of the Irish sea and on a good day Mallin Head in Ballycastle and the Mourne Mountains can be seen (both in Northern Ireland). I was expecting there to be the standard takeaways but there seemed to be only one fish and chip shop that closed in the late afternoon. The Waterfront Hotel provided a great meal every evening though. The bus service is poor in this part of the world so I had to go all the way up to Ayr to hire a car.

Portpatrick is a lovely rugged place with great views, nice walks and a friendly welcome from those we met. Plenty of parking spaces and a very nice hostelry, the Crown hotel, which serves the best food around. I would really recommend staying there if you liked walking , especially the coastal routes and for some peace and quiet. We loved it but it wouldn't be everyone's choice for a break or holiday.

Fabulous clifftop walks to abandoned castles or sweeping bays. Amazing storm-driven waves crashing on the rocks either side of the harbour. good fun in the hotel bar. top tip: watch the sunset from The Mount Stuart dining room or bar, before heading down the hill to The Crown for a musical weekend.

Portpatrick is a quaint seaside village with great access to the outdoors. A good stay, in my opinion, is all down to the weather. Unfortunately the prices in the sea front bars are 'city prices' with a pint of lager coming in at £6.50. Usual prices in the region vary from around £4.00 - £4.50. Very much ripping off the tourists.

Lovely hotel that sits on a small hill overlooking Portpatrick. Has a great view of the surrounding area. Friendly staff and a nice outdoor terrace at the front of the hotel for when the weather is nice. Stayed in the Macdonald Room. A large room on the top floor with far reaching views of the sea, Portpatrick harbour and views all the way to Northern Ireland. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room as well as a small fridge. Ideally placed cushioned window seat to watch the World go by.

The location was fantastic. Couldn’t get any better than looking right out onto the sea. Also the start of the Southern Upland Way is literally down the steps from the hotel and there are some lovely walks. The town of Portpatrick is very nice and picturesque. The Hotel had all the facilities you could ask for. The food in the restaurant was lovely and the staff at dinner and breakfast were very good, friendly and helpful.

Very nice hotel in an ideal location. Great for a week/weekend away. The breakfast was lovely, also had great vegetarian options. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly. Will definitely be back good job guys! If you are visiting Portpatrick I highly recommend getting the ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast, only cost the two of us £30!
