We visited on a sunny day in early March.

We visited on a sunny day in early March. The village is very small with the Ring of Bells restaurant, pub, and accommodation and a few other holiday cottages. I would guess that it’s a madhouse in the holiday months but North Bovey is truly peaceful and gorgeous in the off-season.

A hamlet of ‘holiday’ cottages that because of national park...

A hamlet of ‘holiday’ cottages that because of national park protected status, need full time ongoing occupation and maintenance. The Ring of Bells is Egon Ronay with the price tag, not a comfortable relaxing place to meet the locals and socialise by a roaring fire of an evening. There are limits to how far one wants to be exploited. The hamlet is chocolate-box pretty, but there’s no beating heart to it somehow. It’s the same everywhere nowadays - like holidaying in a cottage theme park. Setting is glorious and peaceful and a great place as a base for walking. If you have a large car, the single track lanes can be interesting and don’t rely on maps for navigation! The only poo bin for furry friends and litter is in the free car park .Its all relative I guess and a matter of personal taste, but I don’t think we shall go back.
