We were pleased to have booked 'One Holyrood Hotel' - it was a lovely stay with wonderful, friendly staff and our room was great!! We stayed in Room 5 which had a lovely carved wooden bed and very comfy mattress! The breakfast was excellent with quite a good selection of eggs, meats, cereals, etc. and was delicious! They have a beautiful garden in the back of the hotel with tables/chairs to sit and enjoy a drink or just relax after a day of sightseeing to admire the flowers especially the wisteria trailing over the arbour. The location is only a 5 minute walk from the bus station, easy to get to anywhere you desire on the Island. We bought a 7 day pass which allowed us to hop on/off, change bus #'s and explore the quaint villages and coastline.....all wonderful!! We highly recommend staying at 'One Holyrood Hotel' - you'll be happy you did!!

We had a fantastic night at the cottage. So impressed with the location and the property itself. I think it was amazing value for money. We will definitely book to stay again. The only suggestion would be maybe to put blackout curtains in the upstairs bedroom.

    We stayed in Carisbrooke, a bus ride to the centre of Newport, which is a great base for buses to all parts of the island. Loads of pubs and eateries to choose from, and all the shops you could wish for. We are keen walkers, and there are some lovely routes around Newport.

    Ideal location for exploring the Island. The variety of good real ale pubs and eating places were a lot less than when I was first in Newport around 15 or so years ago. We tried several pubs, and a tea room/bakery, but on balance the best were not in Newport. The best for drinks - beer at least and wine - was the Newport Ale House; and for food and drink, the Union Inn Cowes, the Red Lion Freshwater, the Bargeman's Rest Newport, the Castle Inn Newport, and top of the list the Highdown Inn Totland Bay ... but there are more to try when we next go for a week of exploration and hiking!

    excellent place to visit all parts of the Island as the bus...

    excellent place to visit all parts of the Island as the bus service seems to visit everywhere. Only had two days but we were able to visit the Needles, Carisbrooke Castle, the Wild Life Sanctuary and Osborne House.

    We wanted to visit all parts of the island so its central location with a variety of pubs and restaurants was ideal. However, it’s not the prettiest place on the Isle of Wight and the traffic at rush hour was heavy and compounded by roadworks.

    Not the most exciting town but a great centre for visiting...

    Not the most exciting town but a great centre for visiting the isle of wight by bus as most routes start and finish there and the buses are reliable - I used it as a base for walking the first half of the coastal path. It also has a reasonable choice of eating places

    The town itself was not inspiring.

    The town itself was not inspiring. WE only spent a short time in town. WE stayed a few miles ouside and the surrounding countryside was very nice. Good location to explore the island - although the size of the IoW means any base is never far from anywhere!

    This is a lovely apartment, a very short stroll from the High Street. Lots of shops, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets within a few minutes walk, but still a peaceful area. Newport is an excellent base for exploring the whole island, even without a car, the bus service is great and the bike hire is a 2-minute walk away. The apartment itself is very spacious and comfortable and Jonathan is very responsive if there are any issues.

    The hotel was very smelly, but not in the bedroom. Very old and dirty carpet, I had to take a cold shower and when I raised with staff, the said I needed to run the shower for 30m before taking a shower!! The water pressure was very weak. Not going there again definitely.

    The bed was comfy and the chef did a cracking Full Breakfast in the morning two days on the trot that was perfect. Location was right in the centre of Newport and very handy for the bus station and shops.
