Small country town with character. an excellent starting point for a holiday in Devon, Dartmoor on the doorstep and other parts of Devon not too far away. In our one overnight stay we got unsolicited help from a young lad and an older man ... a friendly place! Great meal at the Union Inn.

Moretonhampstead is a nice old market town with a good deli and butchers and a couple of nice places to eat. It also has some interesting medieval alms houses and a good art gallery next to the church. It has a walk/cycle path that connects it to pretty villages not far away.

As a slightly immobile guest I found Mortonhampstead the right size to meet my requirements and was able to negotiate the small town well with a stick. The Union pub was excellent for evening meals but book early as they dont take orders after about 8pm

The village was well situated for sightseeing with easy access to Exeter and the Cathedral . It also had lovely farmhouse and garden centers within easy drive. Bodmin was easily accessible and surrounding villages . The White hart Inn was very quaint and perfect if you are looking for something homely. The rooms were very warm at night and unfortunately we couldn't control the temperature . The resturant for an evening meal was slightly more expensive than we expected but the food was good. Breakfast offered a really good choice but would of liked to have seen fresh fruit on offer .Overall we had a lovely 2 night stay and was made to feel very welcomed by the friendly staff ..

We were staying over the new year, so many shops were closed, but we knew the town previously. It is a town with an interesting history, particularly Mortenhampstead-born George Bidder! Later in the year it can be a bustling place with many visitors as a gateway to Dartmoor, there is also great places to visit from the town.

Lovely lively little town with great amenities.

Lovely lively little town with great amenities. Ideal location to explore Dartmoor and Devon's south coast. A nice town with a life outside tourism. The White Hart Inn is a great place to stay. A wonderful butcher shop in the town. Motor Museum worth a visit.

Sue catered for our requirement of a vegan breakfast. She cooked ours first so as to avoid contamination. She was so friendly and accommodating, so much better than a hotel as the stay is so much personalised. Andy unfortunately wasn’t well but that did not deter from the experience. Hope he gets better and see you next time! Although the buses are not always around, Richard who lives in the town is great taxi option and is also great and kind. I totally recommend this place. The people are lovely!

Perfect location, in the centre of Moretonhampstead, though with that come some traffic noise from early in the morning. Opposite the Co-op which was very convenient. Two or three local coffee shops where you can have breakfast as this is not available at the Horse. The room (n2) was very well decorated and the bed large and comfortable. Bathroom was large and with an excellent shower.

Spacious and great for families. We’ve stayed here a couple of times and love the lodge properties. They offer a fantastic balance of privacy and space for groups with the hotel facilities on hand. Perfect for golf and exploring Dartmoor. Dog friendly too, which is a huge plus. Lodges are well appointed and have everything you need for a comfortable family stay.

A great location on the edge of the village of Moretonhampstead. The village boasts plenty of places to eat and drink. It is very dog friendly with a private enclosed garden and has an excellent shower which was welcome after a day’s hiking.
