The owners of this property put other establishments in Scotland to shame. From the minute we arrived the staff could not have been more attentive if they tried. Every matter was attended to immediately. The room was immaculately clean, the beds comfortable and the bathrooms equipped to a high standard. The public areas are warm and inviting and there is always a member of staff available to attend to any needs. Dinner, especially the “bobotie” was sublime, as was the full Scottish breakfast the following morning. On leaving the following morning the staff again were available in force, assisting guests as required and giving advice on routes and the best roads to take. This hotel is operated especially to accommodate motorcyclists and at this they excel but don’t let this put you off if you are a mere traveller, you will not be disappointed especially considering the poor standard of accommodation we endured across Scotland on our recent road trip. Again thank you to all the staff of The Buccleuch Arms, we will be back.

We’ve stayed here before and it is always exceptionally clean, tidy and homely. Very safe for the dogs and the fire is always ready to be lit which is a lovely touch! Highly recommended.

Fox Cottage was a perfect overnight stop for our return journey from the west coast of Scotland. It was a 5 minutes drive off the M74 with parking for our 2 cars. We loved the Fox theme that ran throughout the cottage and it was warm and cosy. We really appreciated the welcome pack of biscuits, oatcakes, eggs, milk and dog treats! We had a very good fish and chip supper from the Moffat Chippie. Thank you to the very helpful neighbour who came to our rescue when we managed to lock ourselves out on arrival! Would definitely return and recommend. . .

Such a lovely traditional Scottish town with great little local and varied businesses. A friendly town for dogs and people. Beautiful countryside on the doorstep with some great dog walking areas on the doorstep. We loved it so much we’d like to move there!

Moffat is a good location for exploring the town and surrounding area. Plenty of eating places and wee shops to wander the high street. Walks, cycling, golf and fishing near. Playparks for children. Can get bus to Hamilton or Glasgow or head south. train station nearby goes to Edinburgh. Lots of accommodation options.

It's a pretty country town, once a spa, set in deeply rural Southern Uplands, with good hill-walking a few miles away. There are a variety of shops, mainly local, some touristy. It's a good base for exploring a relatively unfrequented part of Scotland.

We only had chance for a short walk around the town but what...

We only had chance for a short walk around the town but what we did see looked good, bars, shops restaurants etc. It was easy to walk into Moffat from the guest house and is within easy reach of main roads leading to other towns.

Chose Moffat as a mid point stay on our from the East of...

Chose Moffat as a mid point stay on our from the East of England to the Isle of Skye and it was a perfect location. Moffat has a good mix of shops and pubs, we ate at the bull which was very nice. The surrounding country side is dramtic and forms a great back drop.

Moffat is a lovely town.

Moffat is a lovely town. We broke our journey from Inverness with an overnight stay there. It is a short distance from the main A74, there is ample free parking and the town has lots of hotels and eateries. Perfect.

Lovely, homely, apartment in recently renovated old school. Spotlessly clean, well equipped, comfortable and cosy. Located at the quiet end of the main street in Moffat - minutes walk from shops, restaurants and bars. Cheaper than local hotel alternatives - with all the benefits a home offers over a hotel room. Booked at very short notice but William responded very promptly with helpful, clear instructions for check in.

A lovely hotel in the heart of Moffat, our room had a separate sitting room with a large TV, the bedroom was a good size with plenty of storage and a good sized bathroom. We ate in the bar/restaurant one night and there was plenty of choice with daily specials and the food was delicious. Same with the breakfast, the full was great quality and well cooked.

Very convenient in the centre of Moffat. The new owners had only been in a few weeks and although there was major renovations taking place this did not distract from our stay. Once finished, this will be an excellent hotel with plenty of parking at the rear. Definitely one to consider for a future stay.

Stopped here several times either on the way to the north of Scotland or on the way back. The hotel really caters for bikers and the Staff are fantastic. Brilliant food nice beer and great hosts what more can you want.
