I loved everything. Steeped in history, I was resurching. Guildhall, Bloody Sunday. Guildhall Taphouse for food, The Harp Bar and Oloughlins Irish House for music. Lots of things to see and do. The river is beautiful. Lots of bars and restaurants. Close to stunning coast walks, like Castlerock, very accessable by bus ans train.

There's nothing I didn't like.

There's nothing I didn't like. The weather wasn't the best but it was easy to get about and there are plenty of nice places for a hot drink and a bite between showers. The Bogside (just through the Butcher's Gate buy the hotel) was an interesting and sobering experience. (There are Bogside walking tours available, which I understand are excellent, but I went on my own.) Derry's eventful and often haunting history is explained very well in the exhibitions at the Tower Museum on Waterloo Street. One day I took a taxi out to Wild Ireland, a wildlife sanctuary just over the border in the Republic. (About 10 miles away?) Brown bears, wolves, wild boar, old Irish goats, foxes and also raccoons, wallabies and monkeys live there in beautiful ancient woodland and sare cared for by a very dedicated group of people. There's also a cafe and a nice gift shop there. The Grain and Grill restaurant within the Maldron hotel is excellent. I'd also like to recommend the Mekong, a Vietnamese restaurant just round the corner on Magazine Street: a gorgeous menu and really friendly staff. A walk along the Walls is worth doing (several points of access, you can join them and leave as you wish, and they are free), so is a walk across the Peace Bridge over the Foyle.

Do the Walking Tours of the Walls and Bogside with Terry Brown, (available at the Visit Derry Centre). Go to the Peacemakers museum and Guildhall. Visit the Craft Village and the pubs/restaurants. Further a afield Rope Bridge and the Giants Causeway, plus Buncrana all worth a visit and easily accessible via public transport.

Enjoyed the history of Derry and the Walls tour.

Enjoyed the history of Derry and the Walls tour. Lots of lovely walks. The river is pretty and the city centre full of character. Didn't enjoy the 'fireworks/bangers' that local youths were setting off randomly. I found that quite intimidating so close to the city walls. Made me fearful of walking the streets to the Bogside area to check out the wall murals and historical area. Be mindful of buying food at Don's chippy on Bishop Street. We ordered fish and chips for 4. They gave us 2 pieces of fish each! We didn't know. Everyone in the place smirked and were keen to tell us that we wouldn't be able to eat it all. Pity the owner wasn't so forthcoming! We had to throw over half of it away. Just be upfront with customers, especially if they are out of towners. Such a waste of our money and their food. Disappointing.

The walled city is an interesting visit, but not for the fainthearted. It is possible to walk around the entire perimeter, but it is not all accessible to wheelchair users, and there are some steep inclines and steps. The historical information boards at key points around the wall give a fascinating insight into the cities history.

Feels like a fairy tale city.

Feels like a fairy tale city. Very lovely, walkable as long as you can manage hills. Tone of history, so do your homework before you go, and you'll get more out of it. Taxis reasonable, people lovely! I did a walking tour of the city walls which was most enjoyable. Lots of good places to eat.

This property is central to everything, it is spacious, clean, and all round a beautiful house. It had everything we needed for our stay and more. It was cosy and very well refurbished. The owners were extremely helpful before and throughout our stay. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend our couple days trip to Derry/Londonderry.

Friendly, obliging and courteous staff. Restaurant provided a good selection of very tasty food. The bar staff were both professional and entertaining. Lovely quiet and peaceful walk along the side of the Foyle river from just behind the hotel to the city centre.
