Keswick is a beautiful laid back town with lovely restaurants and coffee shops. Fantastic hiking on its door step and great facilities for a small town. We went to the theatre and had a wonderful evening. What makes Keswick so charming is the people, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Coming from Ireland where people generally are very friendly it was refreshing to see a similar outlook amongst the locals. It is obviously a dog lovers paradise and it attracts a lovely visitor- everyone was so nice, perhaps the atmosphere in the town contributed to this- certainly no larger louts about so I think the town has got the mix just right- we like to visit new places but we will certainly make an exception and come back to Keswick

If you are into hiking and hill walking this is a good place to be ! The views are splendid and the street market is a hive of activity. The Pencil Museum is well worth a visit as are some of the historic mining sites. Boat trips on Derwent Water are available as a round trip or a Ferry service. Away from the main roads some roads are quite narrow and walkers and drivers need to be careful and considerate.

The roads are horrible (very narrow) and large buses come down them forcing you to back up down the road to a pullout. The drivers in the area are terrible -probably other tourists. Parking areas and hiking trails are not well marked. The rain was constant. The area is beautiful and there is great hiking when the weather cooperates. I loved the Catbells hike and Castlerigg Stone Circle.

It was end of season and the kids are back at school so it was much quieter than in August, however you still need to reserve a table in the good pubs etc for dinner. We ate dinner in the pack horse inn, great menu choices and the food was excellent but most of the tables were reserved in the evening, we got lucky with a walk in. lovely town centre with many craft & outdoor shops, and there is also a Booths supermarket if that's your thing. The chippy in the town centre does good fish and chips but it's expensive.

Have been to Keswick many times in the past (usually staying outside of Keswick itself). This was the first trip staying in the town centre. Lovely buzzing atmosphere in the summer, lots of tourists in the main streets but where we stayed was quiet and only 15 minutes walk into the town itself. Plenty of pubs and places to eat. I actually love looking in all the shops - loads of outdoor retailers selling everything for walkers, hikers etc. Spent a fair bit of money in the shops! Well worth it. We were also lucky to visit the theatre and see a magnificent production of Pride and Prejudice. Honestly? it was the best theatre production I have ever seen - amazing! I am sure other productions showing in the future will be well worth it.
