The staff make this place feel very welcoming.

The staff make this place feel very welcoming. It's undergone some renovations in recent times and the common areas of the annexe were clean and bright, as was our room. It's a quirky old building and when the chap said run the water for 5 minutes before the hot comes through, he wasn't joking, it probably took 7 for it to come through hot enough to shower. A serious waste of water and energy considering there's a sign up asking not to request daily fresh towels in order to save water! The food was good. We overheard that there's a new chef and it's clearly paid off. The rooms are spacious and the bed comfortable. It felt as though there should have been a small table and two chairs in the huge empty space. Only one fragile chair in the room. Tea/coffee supplied and an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe, a powerful hairdryer was eventually found for us. It would have been nice to have the option of some sort of breakfast, even if only cereal and toast with tea/coffee. We knew before we visited so brought something with us but it breaks into the day if you have to stop off to eat breakfast. The Cross Keys 200m away does breakfast apparently but only Fri, Sat, Sun. Slyne Lodge is well located for Lancaster, Carnforth, Morecambe and the South Lake and Sizergh Castle is well worth a visit (National Trust).

The staff were polite and friendly.

The staff were polite and friendly. There was no heating in the bathroom and it was cold. The breakfast menu referred to various items that would form the buffet part of breakfast but none of this food was there ! I kid you not there were a few variety packs of childrens cereal and nothing else.

Lovely village, close to some good beaches.

Lovely village, close to some good beaches. On a main road so easy to find. Some interesting places nearby including some great pubs. There is a super little micropub not too far away too, in the old railway station.

The purpose of our visit to Hest Bank/ Slyne was to get some walking in and switch off from everyday life. We undertook the walk from Hest Bank to Carnforth along the coast and then back along the Lancaster Canal and while it isn't the most strenuous of walks, only 8 miles in length and mainly flat, it provided some lovely views across the bay to the Lake District with the canal walk offering views of things you would normally miss.

Our eldest daughter attends Lancaster University and we travelled up to help bring back some of her clothing and possessions, ahead of her finally completing her final term. The Lodge, located in Hest Bank, is an ideal place to stay overnight, if you don't fancy the long travel back home.
