The room had a fun, quirky vibe, and it was clean and cozy. Besides being a building with loads of interesting history, it's located right at the beachfront with easy access to the rest of the city by foot or by bus. The staff were friendly, and the breakfast was top-notch.

This was a wonderful place to stay at, despite the lack of an elevator on the first night (if you've got a lot of luggage, be prepared to haul it some 100 steps or so up a couple of flights of stairs), but the view from the room, combined with the feel of the place and the styling of the room made it all worth it. I came here to write, and spend time by the sea and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The bed was perhaps not the comfiest I've ever slept in, but it didn't really matter when the sound of waves crashing upon the pebbled beach on the other side of the street was lulling me to sleep. The place doesn't serve breakfast, but you're around the corner from some pretty nice cafés, so it doesn't really matter.

Alison runs a beautiful B&B. Our room was clean, comfy and very pretty. The sunny breakfast room and back garden were relaxing and peaceful and we enjoyed a few drinks from the honesty bar in the sun. The location is great, right across from the quiet end of the beach. It's well served by train and bus, and easy walking distance to many bars and restaurants, and around a 40 min walk to Hastings Old Town or a quick bus trip.

Hastings old town had an lot of empty shops and amusement arcade had closed since our last visit.. Hastings in general is looking very tired and parking was expensive in the carpark and streets full daytime and evening, unable to when we popped in to get food so carried into Battle.

Hastings was an interesting town.

Hastings was an interesting town. We enjoyed the old part of the town and the funicular railway lifts, as well as the smugglers' caves, which were a must see! There were many good bars and restaurants. The nearby towns of Battle and Rye were also well worth a visit and easily visited using local buses.

Hastings is full of fascinating places to see and things to do. We'd recommend all of the ones we got to, and there were plenty we didn't get to. The Castle, funicular, shipwreck museum, Hastings Contemporary and a wander around the Old town's 'twittens' are all a must. The Smugglers Caves adventure is fun - family focused but we did learn a lot! It was really interesting to see a boat coming in and winched up onto the beach too.

I like Hastings - its an ideal location I feel for a short stay - eg 3 nights. There are a few historical/heritage sites to visit in/around/just outside its town itself. Its clean - along with its beaches too - albeit they are not sandy but soft pebbly ... Can highly recommend a small family seafront family-run restaurant called La Delizia for an evening - by day, its a great eatery/bistro. As it is very small, I would suggest making a reservation for dinner - the food is superb and sells Italian produce too. Great for gifting. Taxis within the area - best to use 247 Transport Solutions who are very reliable. Don't use Uber as not so frequent at all - especially late evenings. My thoughts are that they work for local concerns and Uber jobs they maybe offered are actioned thereafter, so wait time maybe lengthy !

Hastings town and surrounding areas has everything - old and new town with excellent shops, food shops and bars in all areas. Plenty to do and arty things to see. Friendly locals always willing to stop for a chat, and a super helpful library when I enquired about a local church. Streets and pavements were kept clean with plenty of litter bins around. Sadly, as with all towns, Hastings seems to have its fair share of rough sleepers.

Absolutely lovely and very friendly family run hotel. Fab location - perfect for buses to visit other locations and directly on the sea-front and opposite a pier. We had such a chilled and relaxed time and we particularly liked the flexibility around breakfast, which ran until 11.00am daily so no rush or need to book. Also , the late check out was much welcomed (12pm). We would definitely book again for any further trips to Hastings.

Clean, spacious room with a sea view. Friendly and helpful lady at check-in, who also looked after my luggage until 4pm on the day I checked out. The location is great to explore St.Leonard's and Hastings Old Town is about twenty minutes by foot from the Bank and Bistro. The pier is only a few minutes walk away, which is a bonus. All in all, I would recommended this hotel and would happily stay there again myself.

Our stay at the Alexandra Retreat was absolutely perfect. The room was in a lovely central location with everything we could have possibly needed. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and kind. The room itself was really well designed and felt like a home rather than a hotel. If we ever come back to Hastings, we know exactly where to stay.

This is my fifth visit to the Royal Victoria Hotel and although it could do with some TLC, I like staying here and feel it is my second home in St Leonards in a nice spot on the seafront with lots of lovely cafes, shops and restaurants closeby. As I wanted to explore that part of Hastings, the location was ideal. The hotel was immaculately clean. The garden was a suntrap and the road noise was not excessive. The host offered me a room upgrade, which was appreciated. The room I originally booked was very reasonably priced.
