FAQs about hotels in Harrogate

Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town

The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.

The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.

One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.

Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.

Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.

You can tell Harrogate is in Yorkshire as its hilly, plenty of them. There are lots of shops and many charity shops worth looking in. There is also a famous tea room on a corner that gets rather busy. A few museums, a showground nearby and lots of old buildings that make it ideal for exploring. Good walking shoes for the hills to the shops is a must unless you are physically active. When we arrived in Harrogate we parked at Whetherspoons, pay and display carpark unless you have a blue badge then its free. We had lunch at the pub, normal whetherspoon prices.

Harrogate is a delightfully landscaped town and is a great location for exploring North Yorkshire. Some excellent quality restaurants (e.g. The Ivy, Betty's & Piccolino) and good pubs. Candlelight concerts at St Marks are a real treat as is RHS Harlow Carr. Direct rail links to London, York & Leeds makes Harrogate a perfect location for a long weekend break.

Famous for The Stray, 200 acres of public open space; and the Turkish Baths; and of course Betty's tea rooms, and the Royal Horticultural Society Harlow Carr Gardens. A Victorian spa town with plenty of independent shops, coffee shops, bars and restaurants. A bit like a Northern version of Bath, without the Roman influence and a bit less Regency architecture, but with Leeds and York each only 40 mins away on the train, and two National Parks on the doorstep, North Yorks Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. Beautiful in the spring and summer with floral displays and public gardens. Great in the Autumn with cosy bars after a stroll through Valley Gardens, and plenty of options for a Xmas or New Year break. Not so much on the doorstep for young children, though there are some great activity farms within an hour's drive. A good short break for couples and groups of friends.

Attractive town with distinctive architecture, ample accommodation and the famous Betty's tea shop, which currently serves excellent evening meals in addition to its excellent tea and superb cakes. The RHS Harlow Carr gardens are there with a second Betty's tea room. A main attraction missing from your list.

The room was comfortable and a decent size, and the bathroom very big indeed. Bed was comfortable. Thoughtful touches were appreciated such as snacks including quality crisps, Bourbon biscuits, tea and coffee. The design of the hotel is fun and we liked the eclectic and colourful art. Location was great, right next to the heart of Harrogate with shops, exhibition centre and restaurants. Bombay Spice Indian is a few mins walk down the road and we had the best Indian meal ever there.

Superb location in the heart of Harrogate town centre with a direct 8 minute walk from the railway station (really no need for a taxi). Hotel located In the midst of the shopping centre and near Bettys Tea room and other eating places. Rooms on the side of the hotel offer an excellent view of the town and the Cenotaph square. Good bedside lighting.Good breakfast. Lovely panoramic views of the town and beyond can be viewed from the 5th floor where breakfast is served.

The perfect few days spent at Rudding Park. Could not fault the hotel accommodation, service or spa. We also visited the kitchen garden and were met by Emma and another gardener who were so welcoming. My mum and I were really looked after, including a complimentary upgrade. The hotel is very close to Harlow Carr and Harrogate town centre. I will definitely return!
