The local independent shops are great.
The local independent shops are great. There are quite a few local attractions like the castle, and boat trips. Suitable for both families with children and adults. There is excellent bus , boat and steam train transport to other places. We only used the car one day. There is a wide variety of restaurants and take aways for all budgets. There is a Marks &Spencers food store and a Coop in the town , and also a Sainsburys on the road in if you want to self cater. Dartmouth is a lovely place to stay, and also handy for trips on the River Dart. There is also a scenic steam railway across the estuary in Kingswear which will take you to Paignton. The ferries were very efficient but essential to get about. We had a very nice meal at a reasonable price at Browns bistro. We can thoroughly recommend the tagine. Dartmouth is an absolutely stunning place to stay – full of charm and character, with so much to see and do. The location is beautiful, nestled on the river with amazing views and plenty of boats to watch as they come and go. There are lots of lovely independent shops, cosy cafés, and excellent restaurants to explore, all within easy walking distance. One of the highlights was the scenic walk along the river to Dartmouth Castle, perched on the headland with breathtaking views. Hotel near to many other eating places and pubs which we used every day. We were very lucky to get a parking place directly outside Bayards for the duration of our stay and walked everywhere.
