I usually visit Carlisle every year, plenty of coffee shops and restaurants and pubs also mixture of names shops and individual shops. Trains station is handy to hotels and Carlisle castle and Cathedral. Christmas stalls near to Xmas. Pleasant place for a day or two to visit. People are very friendly.

The hotel was perfectly located in the heart of Carlisle, making it easy to explore the town centre. There was plenty to see, both in terms of history; castle, cathedral, and ancient Roman structures also the many social attractions.

Quiet city consideringit is a University City.

Quiet city consideringit is a University City. Lots if shopping areas but like many high streets many empty premises. The indoor covered market is virtually non exisitant which is a shame. Parking is reaonable and the Cathedral is well worth visiting.

The older area of the city around the cathedral and castle is the most interesting and easy to explore on foot. The area includes the Tullie museum. The town centre shopping area is a disappointment with only one good coffee place.

I knew nothing of Carlisle prior to my visit and we didn't have long to look round but my main feeling was to wonder why nobody's mentioned how lovely it is. It has some stunning historical buildings to see and the city had a nice vibe. It's also really conveniently located for the Lake District and has rail links directly to it. My husband and I have promised each other a longer trip back.

A great compact city, good for a weekend break but also great as a base to explore this beautiful area. Train journeys along the Carlisle /Settle route, the Cumbrian coast route, over into Scotland and to Leeds Newcastle etc all easy.

The hotel is positioned right next to the station. We were walking Hadrian's Wall Path so wanted convenience. We walked straight out of the station into the hotel. We stayed 2 nights and ate at 2 lovely Italian restaurants just nearby. The staff are very friendly (I think Cumbrians/Carlisle folk all are). The room was large, giving us a bit of space to spread out and the breakfast was fine. We took a taxi from outside the hotel to Bowness-on-Solway and walked back to the hotel, that day so it is very conventient.

Very comfortable bed. Situated in a lovely village very near to the train station which you could easily get to Carlisle if you didn't want to take your car. We had an excellent dinner in the bar. Staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a leasure centre attached to the hotel.
