Bishop’s Castle is a lively and historic market town, full of character and charm. It offers an array of independent shops, welcoming pubs, and a variety of accommodation options. There’s plenty to explore in and around the town, making it a fantastic base for walkers. It lies close to the famous Offa’s Dyke Path, along with many other scenic walking routes. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and weekends often bring a delightful craft fair to the town hall, adding to the town’s vibrant atmosphere. Nearby towns worth visiting include Welshpool, Oswestry, Ludlow, Church Stretton, Knighton, and Presteigne. If you're looking to venture a bit further, Hay-on-Wye, Hereford, Leominster, and Brecon are also within reach and offer even more to discover.

A lovely welcoming town with lots of interesting history.

A lovely welcoming town with lots of interesting history. We eat in the Indian restaurant, where we can take our own wine. The food is excellent. There are lots of good walks from Bishoos castle to over the border into Wales.

A very quiet little town (population under 3,000.

A very quiet little town (population under 3,000. A couple of teashops, a well-known and ancient pub/brewery (The Three Tuns), good quality hotel for meals (The Castle) and an Indian restaurant. Bishop's Castle is an idiosyncratic place, having (for example) a 'musical' public house, a 'poetry' pharmacy and a bookshop where yous can still find second-hand sheet music. Driving around is pleasant, the roads quiet and both the Shropshire Hills and mid-Wales being close to hand.

It’s spectacular location in a beautiful area.

It’s spectacular location in a beautiful area. An ideal location with lots of local activities like walking and cycling. Or, just relaxing. The hotel is located on top of a hill so walking around the village requires some mobility. It is very professionally run, staff were very attentive.

It is perfect for a quiet getaway.

It is perfect for a quiet getaway. Small but interesting town, with tons of good walks to do all around the area. It is worth going for a visit if only to spend several magical hours inside the wonders of the Poetry Pharmacy - but sshhhhh don't tell anybody! Plenty of good eateries - for fab home-made soup, the Bap (if its their birthday when you go, you get free cake!). In the evening the Tuns pub does excellent food - and beer if that is what you are into!

Lovely small town. Steep streets.

Lovely small town. Steep streets. Quiet (at the time we were there, March). Many pubs to choose from. Not many general shops, but lots of places to buy greetings cards. We ate at the Ganges restaurant and The Three Tuns pub, both recommended, but best to book. Very limited places to eat on a Sunday evening.

A beautiful retreat decorated in a lovely boho style. Entry is through a tiny courtyard and glazed sliding doors. It is comfortable and spacious with a well equipped kitchen, including oven and induction hob. Up the staircase is a large attic bedroom with exposed wood beams, large window, and comfy double bed. Situated on the edge of Bishops Castle, there is free parking on site and fabulous views across open countryside. Although only 5 minutes walk to the town centre, the town is set on steep hills.

We stayed for one night and had an excellent experience. The Poppy House is a very quirky old building with oak beams, wonky floors and some added modern touches to make our stay enjoyable. It was very clean and comfortable, with a fridge containing fresh milk (so much better than the long life stuff in so many hotels) and two bottles of water. Breakfast was cereals, juices and full English with toast. It was lovely. We would happily stay again.

Lovely historic hotel in a historic location. Very nice room with all facilities you need. Very clean and well presented. Well catered for pets in all areas of the hotel. Extremely helpful and friendly staff who couldn't do more for you. Excellent choice for breakfast and evening meals. Great use of local produce.

This is a lovely cottage that lives up to the description of cosy. We had a wonderful stay and the host was most helpful throughout the booking process. The cottage is well equipped and is comfortable. It has rustic charm and is well appointed for the shops and pubs of Bishops Castle
