The location and ambience of the hotel was amazing. My parents have mobility issues and all staff went above and beyond to enhance our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, compliments to the chef/ chefs. I would highly recommend The Seagate. This was an important trip for my parents and I’m grateful to the staff . Regards Donna

Stayed 1 night after deciding to add on another day after our wedding and a few days in High Bickington. Beautiful apartment, spotlessly clean, loved the milk & ice which came in very handy. Very warm, dog friendly (ours loved watching the boats from the balcony) cosy apartment, helpful host and WHAT A VIEW. Genuinely had one of the best night sleeps I’ve had in a long time. Thank you Jan!

We had a perfect stay from check in. We were welcomed by Nicky and shown to our lovely accommodation. The rooms in the lodge building were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was modern with a very powerful shower. Our evening meals and breakfast cooked by John were exceptional. The hotel is in a quiet location with countryside views and has plenty of free onsite parking.

    A pleasant small town near Bideford in a good location next to the estuary. Adequate eating places ,a small forgotten town on the tourists route that helds up well and pleasant to its larger neighbours and has a good maritime history.

    Area was lovely hotel us not up to scratch fir tge price charged. Need some form of aid conditioning in rooms as little ventilation via windows room was extremely hot uncomfortable for sleeping. 4 night stay no change of towels toilet in bathroom did not smell very nice and there was no cleaning if room during our stay. Cleaner came into room to check cups and water supply and then left our door opened for anyone to walk in which we complained about.

    Appledore is a small town with a great riverside location...

    Appledore is a small town with a great riverside location and interesting history. Parking is mainly restricted to the main street and adjoining paid carpark. You will find it best to find a parking place and explore on foot. If you have an interest in local shipbuilding history the shipbuilding museum is well worth a visit. There is no need to go hungry or thirsty in this town.

    A lovely place to visit, always something to see on the water. Plenty of places for coffee, pastries, lunches, dinner, or drinks. Individual shops to explore down the quaint windy streets. I definitely want to visit Appledore again.

    We are regular visitors to Appledore and particularly love...

    We are regular visitors to Appledore and particularly love Irsha Street. The walks on the beach(es) and along the quay to 'John's' are great, especially with dog friendly hotels and eateries. Instow, across the estuary has a sensational beach, and places for lovely lunches (including the famous Glorious Oyster). It's great as a centre to explore north Devon and Cornwall, with the only concern being able to to park on return (getting a parking permit from local council - a must).

    Loads of great pubs, restaurants, cafes and deli along the quayside. Parking was convenient. Lovely position/views across estuary to Instow. Obviously a "tourist destination" but there's a vibrant local community - it's not all visitors. We went in February when it was busy, but not TOO busy. Even out of season I'd recommend booking tables for evening meal. I imaging in summer months it is heaving. Ate in Flame Pizza restaurant - excellent, good value, super friendly family run. Also ate in The Yard, also excellent (tapas). And the Seagate pub was really lively, had a huge Sunday roast and quiz night...popular with locals, which is a good sign!

    The house fixtures and fittings were done to a high standard, the location was great only a short walk into Appledore Quay, the view was lovely even on the cloudy days, parking was great and all the rooms were a good size. Plenty of seating and really comfy beds and bedding. Great heating meant it was nice and cosy. We visited over Christmas and there was a lovely tree on our arrival.

    We loved the cottage, so cosy and comfortable, so near the harbour, shops, and all we wanted to do on a short break , we have been coming down to Appledore and Westwood ho for 60 years so know the area very well, we will be back to Wimbrel in near future, 😀
