The Donaine is set in the most incredible chateau and grounds. It is renovated to the highest of standards with a contemporary feel. Every single detail is perfect. The room was large more like a suite in the chateau itself with the most spectacular view of the lake. The bedding and pillows are so incredibly soft and the staff cater to your every whim. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

John was a wonderful host, very welcoming, informative and also provided us with a few essential groceries which was great for our first day. There was a slight problem with the Lodge but John quickly sorted out so we got a chance to stay in the Tower too. Both properties had everything needed, kitchen was extremely well equipped with oven and hob. Setting was beautiful and would love to go back in the summer.

Well this place is under rated really , if you are looking for relaxation in a cosy and warm place surrounded by a beautiful landscape in the country don’t go anywhere else ! You ll get a warm welcome , amazing facilities all equipped with WiFi , tv , kitchen . The place is just amazing , no need to spend some insane money for a night in an ensuite bedroom . You ll get a lot of scammer in this area .

Christine is a great host. She makes you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive. We loved our stay. It was comfortable, spotlessly clean and easy to find. The private terrace and garden surrounded by lavender was a nice place to sit out in. Plus there was her wonderful pool area. She kindly gave us a bowl of homegrown tomatoes and figs straight off her tree. I had a great massage in her beautiful, relaxing room. It left me feeling so relaxed. We only stayed two nights but wished we had stayed longer. Christine speaks perfect English which made communication very easy. We would absolutely recommend Le Gîte de Lou.

This is a well appointed gite in an excellent location. Belinda and Hamish couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Massignac is a small village but has everything for your immediate needs. A friendly little epicerie, fabulous boulangerie, cafe, post office and a restaurant are all only a couple of minutes walk away. You won’t be able to be there more than a couple of days before making new friends. Wider afield you have a couple of Intermarches, a Super U and a LeClerc a short drive away. Massignac is around halfway between Angouleme and Limoges so both are easy to reach. There are a couple of nice walks from the gite. One is around the lake, another, short walk goes to the local Michelin starred Restaurant “Domaine des Etang”. The walk is free, the restaurant is definitely not…. Gite du Jardin is the only place we’ll stay if we’re anywhere near the area.

Both Collette & Albert were very kind and superb hosts. We would 100% return if in the area again. The sleep was amazing ...the beautiful smell of the open fire, and meeting our wonderful hosts was an amazing welcome after a long journey!! Highly recommend this stay!
