The location of Villa Lara was perfect! There were several restaurants and historic landmarks within easy walking distance. The staff was incredible. The owner took us on a tour of the city which was the highlight of our trip. The hotel is also in a perfect location to meet tour companies for the Normandy WWII tours. Outstanding stay!

Lovely building. On main street but set back a bit so it's quiet with a lovely garden. The single room was bigger than expected and lovely view of garden. The staff were lovely, especially Gloria. Buffet breakfast downstairs or in garden and can order a drink in evening also.

FAQs about hotels in Bayeux

Rich History and Medieval Beauty

Bayeux is a medieval French town in the region of Lower Normandy, known for the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry which depicts scenes from the conquest of England by William the Conquerer in 1066. Registered by UNESCO as ‘Memory of the World’, this historic tapestry is 70 metres long and gives us information about the way of life in the Middle Ages.

The Norman-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral has impressive stained glass windows, bas-relief sculptures and a crypt with 15th-century frescoes beneath its floor. Consecrated in 1077, this structure is the place where the Bayeux Tapestry was kept for about seven centuries.

Opened in 1864, the botanical garden of Bayeux, which is home to the popular Weeping Beech tree and about 400 more trees, is open daily for free. You can wander around the picturesque old part of the city or visit the vibrant city centre with the modern shops and restaurants.

Crossed by the Aure River and situated on the train route to Paris, Bayeux is 7 km from the coast of the English Channel and 20 km from Caen – Carpiquet Airport. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Bayeux and the city of Caen.

We were delighted at the location/ convenience of our hotel but disappointed that many stores and restaurants closed on Sunday and Monday, the two days we visited. We also understand that those are the same days many of our home communities close for business so owners/employees have a day off. Bayeux is larger than we expected and it's a lovely city

The cathedral is so beautiful as is the whole town.

The cathedral is so beautiful as is the whole town. It truly is postcard perfect. We loved the Battle of Normandy museum and learned so much about the WWII history of the town. The military cemetery and memorial to journalists are both well worth visiting. And we also did a half day D Day tour which was very good. And it was only two hours by train from Mont St Michel which is the most incredible place.

The Cathedral is on pair with Notre dame. we spent several hours gazing at the windows and gargoyles. Bayeux is a quaint beautiful town. Great place to stay while exploring DDay beaches. We were sorry that we did not stay longer.

Beautiful town, great location to take a trip to Normandy beaches. The tapestries were moved to the UK and the Tapestry museum closed on Sept 1st for two years! Most restaurants were closed on Sunday and Monday and you definitely need a reservation for dinner if you want a good meal. some restaurants were closed on Tuesday too! If you take a full day tour of Normandy I would suggest staying the night at Bayeux because there is traffic at the end of the day heading back to Paris.

Bayeux is a lovely, well-maintained, safe and easily walkable town. We used it as a base for three full-day tours to the Normandy beaches and Mont Saint-Michel, so we only had time to explore the Cathedral on our own. Unfortunately, the Bayeux Tapestry had been temporarily removed by the time we arrived, so we did not get to visit that. It is advisable to make restaurant reservations if there are ones you do not want to miss, but seeing the sites was more of our priority. We were willing to eat around 6:30 or 7:00 and we did not have any problem finding a satisfactory meal.

Bayeux is a small town, but is centrally located to get to Mont St Michael and D-Day activities. Not much to do in the town itself. There was one highlight in the town itself and that was the restaurant La Rapiere. We had a great dining experience there.

The location was central to town centre and an excellent base to travel to the D Day beaches and other aspects of the wider battle for Normandy. The property was quiet and although our appartment was adjacent yo the road we heard no traffic. This is the 2nd time we have booked this property over a couple of years and it hasn't failed to deliver. I would highly recommend this establishment if you need a base to travel this part of Normandy.

Excellent 3 night stay, Vincent is a helpful owner, we stayed in Escapade on the ground floor, spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you’d need. Great location for the Tapestry and Normandy beaches, free car park across the road. Fantastic bakery 2mins away. Bayeux is a beautiful city with restaurants, shops etc. We would definitely return!
