A Barcelona Suburb Taking Off
El Prat de Llobregat is a name familiar to all those arriving in Barcelona by air, as it’s the site of Barcelona Airport. The thousands of passengers who take advantage of cheap flights from low cost airlines and international carriers pass through one of Europe’s busiest passenger terminals.
Many head straight for the Catalan capital via the on-site train station and end up missing the attractions of El Prat de Llobregat itself. A golf club covers the narrow strip of land between the airport and the sandy, Mediterranean beach which extends all the way to Castelldefels in one direction, and the mouth of the Llobregat River in the other. There is also a nature reserve which offers views towards Montjuic hill.
Also set by the river in the foothills of mountains is Sant Boi de Llobregat, whose skyline is dominated by the belltower of its simple church. It is connected by train and underground to central Barcelona, as is Hospitalet de Llobregat, where the historic centre buildings contrast with innovative skyscrapers. The most notable structure of Cornellà de Llobregat is the Miranda Tower which is beautifully lit at night.

The length of our trip was unplanned at 3 days. We originally wanted only an overnight convenient to the airport after a cruise. For this it is excellent. But our flight was cancelled and we extended 2 extra days, at no little expense. El Prat is ideal if you’re coming or leaving Barcelona for an early flight as it’s few stops to the airport. We found a wonderful Italian eatery to have a light supper as we were flying the next morning. Great location to airport, very clean, fab big rooms and quite, however staff on reception had very poor welcome, felt we were interrupting them, a smile and saying a genuine welcome would go such a long way. Excellent, comfy room, good bar and restaurant food and service was also excellent. Hotel transfer bus was easy to find (and needed) as the hotel was quite far away from the airport (less noise). Excellent location, 10 minutes from/to the airport by Metro, absolutely clean, spacious and well equipped. We visit this place regularly when we go to Spain, and staff was always kind and helpful, excellent service, good breakfast, we never had any objection. It costs more than AirBnB (not a lot more), but it should be known that the hotel is oriented towards ecology, optimizing the usage of resources (especially water), using the energy of the sun, and with all that in mind - guests still have maximum comfort and everything they need. The hotel is owned by a non-profit organization, employs a lot of people, and we always choose to help them by choosing them as hosts for our stays in Barcelona, rather than go for the cheapest option.Guest review bySrđanSerbia
