My wife and I stayed for one night at the NH Gran on our way from Spain to Portugal and the hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was of a very generous size and was well fitted out. The cleanliness of this hotel was exceptional. It smelt and was clean. Staff were very friendly with reception staff a standout in taking a little time to explain the sights of the city and to mark a few things on a map for us. It was very much appreciated. Lovely stay and recommneded.

unique!.. a small complex including and amazing function room/restaurant.. truly Fantastic local food, cheese, hams, Wine.. You guys blew us away and we did feel like we were family by the time we left.. we were only passing through.. but seriously considering coming back- with our dog for my Birthday in June.. Loved the experience.. and I got completely sloshed on the after dinner liquor!. DE-Licious!!

Very spacy room with balcony - had all the expected facilities, for example, plenty of sockets for charging, hooks for towels, room service; etc. Very convinient location: near to the centre and the bus station. Very good value for money: I paid for three overnights less than for one overnight in Lisboa or Dublin.

Very clean room facing the freeway which had excellent sound proofing so was very quiet all the time. Staff fantastic and very helpful. The restaurant was outstanding, and the breakfast was great. The cafeteria next door is run by the hotel and uses the same kitchen, so the quality of food is first class. Very comfortable. A good base to tour Badajoz. You do not need to use the highway to access the hotel as there is another road which crosses the highway and links up with Avienda de Elvas providing direct access to shopping and the town.

We weren't really lucky with the weather, which certainly influenced our assessment. It was cloudy and raining, which meant that, the city itself didn't seem particularly attractive, apart from some beautiful old buildings and monuments. The museum of modern art, on the other hand, was a highlight for us. It was, in fact, our main reason for visiting this city, and it was definitely worth it. We also found a few nice places to have a drink and a meal, such as "Luzia" and "Espanta perros", a nice little café with good music and friendly staff.

We did not have much time in the town but we spent a few hours and it seemed to be a great town. The town is very very clean, well looked after and we felt safe walking around the town. The squares are beautiful, the plants, flowers are gorgeous!! We ate a great meal at kebab closer to the hotel Sercotel Grand Hotel. We had delicious ice cream at Heladeria ‘Augustin Mira’… loved it. The hotel is really worth staying. Beds are comfortable and the place spotless! The breakfast is the best so far. Lots of options and variety of fruits, juices, cold meats, breads and there was butter croissants and chocolate croissants. Different options of cakes, including cupcakes and the coffee, the best!!

We were only there for 1 day and night.

We were only there for 1 day and night. We enjoyed being close to the river and walking paths as we are borders. We walked to the citadel/ castle and enjoyed the history. Being there on a Monday we did have a challenge finding anywhere to eat as most of the restaurants are closed

Probably a city which doesn't get many tourists, but...

Probably a city which doesn't get many tourists, but certainly deserves more. To be honest, until planning our interrail trip, I had never heard of the place, but it was necessary to stay there to get across the border next day. Plaza Alta, high up in the town as the name would perhaps suggest, was jumping, and everyone was eating outside.

Badajoz seems to me to be a very under appreciated city very...

Badajoz seems to me to be a very under appreciated city very much in the shadow of its Extremaduran neighbours Merida and Caceres, yet it is as steeped in history as both of these two more popular tourist destinations. Culturally it has so much to offer: two excellent art galleries, Museo de Bellas Artes and MEIAC which have very contrasting collections of mainly local art; The Moorish Alcazaba, with sweeping views of the city from its imposing, extensive walls and within these walls the Archaeological Museum and gardens; Nightlife in the old town is particularly lively with excellent tapas; There are numerous cultural events throughout the year including a yearly festival of Flamenco and Fado plus a Jazz Festival. Behind the slightly run down facade the city presents lies a wealth of experiences.

Many people say Badjoz is modern and ugly with not much to see. There are lots of historical sites like the town walls, gates and castles plus the many gardens situated in parks. The Alta Square was great with three good cafe/restaurants. If you have a hire car visit nearby Elvas in Portugal.

I had a delightful stay! The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacey, the bathroom includes all the amenities and is big enough, the cafeteria next to the hotel is great to have lunch. The breakfast has many options to choose from, the buffet is diverse and the taste of the products is good. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The center is in 15min walking distance, more or less.

The Sercotel Gran Hotel Zurbarán is a great place to stay in Badajoz. It is lolated at a 20min walk by foot from the train station which makes it very practical, and 15min from the castle. The rooms are calm and comfortable, with plenty of space for 2 people. Overall, a great stay for a very reasonable price.
