Luxor is a lovely town with friendly people.

Luxor is a lovely town with friendly people. Getting around is easy with In Drive app. there are always vehicles available. It's best to use the app, agree the fair upfront to avoid surprises at the end of the trip. For our trip, we booked a fully guided tour of all the temples and sites. This made it so much more relaxed and enjoyable. Options are available on Bookings.com and are reasonably priced. Shops generally did not display prices so be aware of the actual cost of items before shopping around as you might end up paying more than the fair price.

On the east bank, the Luxor and Karnak Temples are a must...

On the east bank, the Luxor and Karnak Temples are a must see. Especially the Karnak Temple was very impressive and big. The souks are nice to get some souvenirs. Shopkeepers are much less pushy than in Cairo, but they will still try to get you into their shop. They won't insist if you don't show interest, which is good. To get to the west bank, there are many boat owners who can be pushy, but there is also the public ferry for 25EGP (you have to insist on this price, as they first asked us 1 USD per person). The kings valley is a must see as well. The queen Hatshepsut temple is nice from the outside, but I found it less worth the entrance fee. I would recommend a hot air balloon ride, as it gave me the best view over the Kings valley, queens valley, queen Hatshepsut temple and other temples, as well as a distant view on the city and surrounding desert and hills/mountains. Taxis / private boats will require some negotiating and also best reserve some money (10%) for tips as it is the standard over there.

The historic sites are amazing I would suggest 2 days is enough time to see everything. Our highlight was the Hot Air Balloon, if there is any wind they do not go up, so always make sure you have an extra day in Luxor just in case.

I spent 4 nights in Luxor in October - it was 36C every day...

I spent 4 nights in Luxor in October - it was 36C every day so pretty hot! I think if I went again, 3 nights would be enough. I went to all the temples and the Luxor Museum, and I also did a trip out to Dendera - about 70 min drive away, this was a highlight so would recommend it. Don't bother getting an Uber from the airport - they lie/argue the toss about the price, cancel your trip, and you also have to walk completely out of the airport in order to meet them. I wished I'd simply negotiated a fare with the private hire cabs (white cars) inside the airport as it would have probably been the same price and more convenient. The price at time of writing which is reasonable to the East bank would be about 350LE and perhaps 500LE over to West bank - careful as hotels try to charge 20$! The ferry - mixed reviews about what the price is supposed to be - I was charged 25LE as a foreigner for a single trip which is more than it should be, some people on Google have said it's as low as 10LE - if you don't mind arguing or haggling about these things, fill your boots. There is corruption around with a police officer at one point trying to get my driver to give him money, simply because we had stopped at an ATM machine for me to get some cash! But overall, it is a safe city. I stayed in a hotel that was really lovely, but not ideal location for accessability - so I would probably advise most people to stay on the East Bank in Luxor itself, as transport and pickups from there is a bit easier and cheaper.

So much to see here.

So much to see here. Temples of Karnak and Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut. Take a Nile cruise from Luxor down to Aswan to see more. From Aswan you can visit Philae Temple and Abu Simbal and enroute see Edfu Temple. Visit Nubian villages. Large market in Aswan many bargains to barter for.

Luxor is a small town reliant on the splendour of the Valley of the Kings for tourism. Enjoy your stay but beware of hustlers whose sole aim is to relieve you of your money! Be prepared to negotiate haggle for everything unless prices displayed on menu etc. Old Markets away from tourist traps well worth a visit. Take a horse and cart ride around the old town to pick up bargains...(remember haggle negotiate for everything!) At the Valley of the Kings ask for Mike Atty local Egyptian who is a superb registered Tour guide conversant in fluent English. This Man is a fountain of knowledge local and historically re: Egyptian history. Seek this man out I implore you! Allan Dawkins

We absolutely loved this hotel, more so than any other place we stayed in Egypt. Not only was the hotel extremely beautiful, but we were upgraded to a larger room for no additional cost and the hotel employees were extremely kind and understanding with early and late checkouts (they even made us a to-go breakfast!). Although the hotel is in a rural area of West Luxor, we had fun getting around in rickshaws or truck-beds and enjoyed soaking up the sun at the hotel’s lovely pool and gardens. Would definitely come back!

This was by far the nicest place we stayed in Egypt. The hotel was an oasis of calm in Luxor and perfect for relaxing after a long day seeing the sites. We really enjoyed the buffet breakfast and buffet dinner has a huge choice (even for vegetarians) and the pool area with a view right on the Nile was a real highlight.

Everything was good, it’s a cozy hotel, very Egyptian style which i loved. The rooftop terrace was the best part, amazing views of the Nile and the Luxor Temple. Breakfast was also very good, with plenty of options and most of them vegetarian. Also we had dinner there and i food was very tasty.

Nice site in a sidestreet near the main road with a pool (haven't used) and in walking distance to Karnak. Felt overall like a good base for a few days stay in Luxor. Breakfast was ok. The room was fine for its purpose, and what you would expect at similar value in Egypt.

Very nice room with view on the Nile. Modern, comfortable and with very nice and clean bathroom (the best I had in my 10 days in Egypt!). The swimming pool and swing on the Nile are great! Very quiet location, far from the noisy central streets of Luxor.
