FAQs about hotels in Hamburg

The Real Venice of the North

With more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined and over 2300 bridges, Hamburg is an independent city-state with the Europe’s second busiest port and one of Germany's most popular football teams, Hamburg SV.

No trip to Hamburg is complete without a visit to the city’s old warehouse district, the Speicherstadt, and the popular harbour promenade, the Landungsbrücken. The best and most popular way to explore the city is by boat or a ferry so you can truly admire the stunning architecture and the city’s waterways.

The impressive City Hall and the popular St. Michaelis church will awe any visitor and music fans should seek out the Indra and the Star Club, where the Beatles played between 1960 and 1962. For a different look at Hamburg, moonlit strolls in the Reeperbahn will bring visitors through the largest red light district in Europe. Hamburg is famous for its local dishes, the Birnen, Bohnen and Speck, the Aalsuppe and the open-faced sandwiches with cold-smoked or pickled fish. The laid-back cafés of Schanze neighbourhood and barbecues on a beach along the Elbe River are great ways to relax after heavy sightseeing.

The city centre can be reached from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport and Hamburg-Lübeck Airport using either train or bus services. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel, traditional apartment or youth hostel, Booking.com has everything you need for you Hamburg holiday.

Hamburg is a very vibrant city with lots of lovely neighborhoods like the Sternschanze district. There are lot of sights to see along the Elbe River and great museums. And if you area Beatles fan there is History in the Reeperbahn

The museums were most interesting, well designed/planned.

The museums were most interesting, well designed/planned. Card to visit several was an excellent choice. Churches were beautiful, calm and serenity reigned. Restaurants were varied, vegetarian and meat dishes, especially fish, were excellent. Prices were sometimes high. Beer keller supper was fabulous, friendly staff excellent service. Two hour trip round harbour was fascinating, so many things to see and learn (made easy by guide although I don't understand German). Travel by underground was so easy, plenty of trains, cleanliness and order excellent. Hamburg is a city to visit if only for its cleanliness, parks, museums, organisation and order reigned everywhere amongst inhabitants and visitors. Perhaps a few more post offices (not inside shops...) would be appreciated!

This was my first visit here as a tourist.

This was my first visit here as a tourist. I was not disappointed by the variety of activities on offer although I chose to walk around the central district a lot and admire the wide variety of architectural styles. I was surprised at the lack of small cafes and bars on the central district and the dearth of public toilets available there. Hotel and restaurant staff were invariably courteous and helpful. My brother had his phone stolen in an outside bar area but in retrospect this could have been avoided. Restaurants of all types were good and we managed to avoid pork knuckle and curry wurst. Public transport is easy to navigate and frequent. We had bought the much-lauded Hamburg Card for discount on transport but no one asked to see it over a 3-day period.

It's astonishing that this city does not get more attention.

It's astonishing that this city does not get more attention. Great music scene and museums. Restaurants and shopping can compete with any city in Europe, maybe with the exception of London and Paris. It's also surprisingly beautiful with a lake in the city center and a lot of interesting and diverse neighborhoods

Very clean city, with a very efficient public transport system. Victor our city centre guide was very informative, interesting and empathetic. He helped give an early sense of the history and sights of Hamburg.

It's a reliable and pretty basic hotel in Hamburg. One stop away from the central station, with direct trains to/from the airport and city centre. Breakfast was an "experience", i.e. if you order a deli slice for your bread, they will literally only give you one small deli slice unless you specifically ask for more, but otherwise it was okay. Room got cleaned everyday, location is very convenient, the bar staff was friendly :)

Reception staff upon arrival very welcoming. The Hotel is stylish and most of my interactions with staff during my stay were very good. The waitress in the restaurant was very friendly, professional and efficient. The hotel is beautifully designed, and in a good location, in the centre of Hamburg and has a very Spanish feel to it. We decided to go out for breakfast, the evening meal in the restaurant was ok.

Lovely 4-star hotel with really nice helpful friendly staff. Wonderful views over the city. Good breakfast Incredibly good value for what it was. A little bit far from main Hamburg centre but close to tube and main train station so still easy to get around

Extremely convenient for an overnight stop at Hamburg Hbf. Usually the cheapest hotel on the street.
