Germans would say "klein aber fein". The hostess was friendly. All you need is there for a shorter or longer stay. Street-side parking was no problem. The hostess recommended good gastronomy for us. Greiz is a small town, so location is not super important. You can get anywhere in a few minutes by car. This is a residential neighbourhood in a working class environment with the apartments located in typical post-war blocks. Greiz is a very hilly town, the former wealth of which shows in the downtown Patrician mansions.

Greiz itself, with its Art Nouveau buildings and two castles, is different from other small towns and can be explored in one or two days. The surrounding area offers several beautiful hiking trails along rivers and through forests, featuring castles, churches, monasteries, art (e.g., the Mildenfurth Art Depot, please register in advance), and interesting engineering structures, such as the Gölzschtal Bridge.

The city is absolutely beautiful, with lots of renovated old buildings, three castles, and a castle park. However, we found the opening hours of cafes and bakeries etc. very limited, and when we approached people on the street, we unfortunately felt a bit out of place.

A beautiful city with castles that has yet to be discovered...

A beautiful city with castles that has yet to be discovered by tourism. The surrounding area offers fantastic hiking opportunities. The multi-day Elsterperlenweg hiking trail is highly recommended. Easily accessible by public transport.

A charming city with many scars on its cityscape resulting from the economic decline of industry during the period of reunification and, undoubtedly, the associated emigration of a significant portion of the population. Overcoming this is difficult, but largely evident.
