Amazing local hotel / homestay for a quick retreat. Location: slightly out of central town in Yangshou (5min drive). Personally this is exactly what we wanted, a mini retreat to relax. Several restaurants including a restaurant built into a cave right nearby. Rooms: we stayed in a mountain view king room which was awesome, 'instragrammable', spacious with big bathtub, adjustable AC, and projector tv. It was very clean and modern with top to bottom glass windows so you wake to a beautiful view of mountains. Staff: This isn't a chain or resort, so the service is more personable. You'll become acquainted with them in no time. Promptly responded to WeChat messages. Very friendly and extremely accommodating. We had a issue when we first checked in with some construction noise - which the staff immediately addressed and this was greatly appreciated. Food: 'Western' style restaurant serving comfort food which was good and honestly a nice pace chance having travelled china for several weeks now. Cafe: perhaps one of the highlights is the treehouse cafe on level 5 - which has stunning views and great coffee. Value: room was on the expensive side compared to other places we stayed in China, albiet we booked the most expensive room type. We definitely got what we paid for. Other: the pool was out of service during most of our stay but personally this isn't something we'd use anyway. they also assisted us to use the laundry which was great as laundries seem hard to find in mainland China. Throughout our time here, we only had to leave the hotel once really, to go watch the Impressions show. Everything else was well catered to by the hotel or it's near surroundings. Would strongly recommend staying here during your visit to Yangshou, especially if you're looking for a place to get some rest and recovery.

excellent hotel - rooms were spacious, facilities were new/well-maintained, food was solid (they have yangshuo local foods too), the lobby staff were very helpful and friendly (special shout out to Sarah!). the hotel also includes complimentary (1) 2 free drinks, (2) photoshoot - 5 photos free, the rest were RMB 80 per photo, (3) hotel tour. Sugarhouse also has several fun activities to choose from such as rock climbing (in the hotel premise), syrup making, candle making - making the stay super special!

We instantly felt at home, the staff is the nicest we have ever come across. Great command over english as well! Especially Kate was so helpful and went out of her way to even show us local food in her favorite place in Yangshuo. - Great location - Rooms are exceptional with a great view and fully equiped with tea and kettle - Restaurant food is also very good (just had chinese and snacks)

The hotel staff was exceptionally kind, helpful, and spoke excellent English. Upon our arrival, the receptionist informed us about the various tours and services the hotel offers, such as reserving a table at their popular and often fully booked restaurant. When we departed, the receptionist kindly arranged a taxi for us, which was particularly helpful given how scarce they are in Yangshuo. Overall, the staff provided outstanding recommendations and valuable advice throughout our stay!

I can’t get over how gorgeous this hotel is! Positioned along the Ten Mile Gallery and overlooking the Yulong River, it’s surrounded by postcard-perfect scenery. The room was spacious and immaculate, with a ceiling to floor window that let us enjoy the views up close. The staff were wonderful, always ready to assist with river trips or dining recommendations. Spectacular! Beautiful scenic landscape.

Spectacular! Beautiful scenic landscape. We loved the bamboo rafting on the Yulong River. We also spent a lovely morning at Ruyi Peak with the suspension bridge and the glass walkways and views of the karst landscape stretching into the horizon. We took a 4 hour ride along the Shili corridor on the electric tricycle with a friendly lady driver who stopped at all the scenic viewpoints for us to take photos. We spent an evening on West street but felt it wasn’t enough! We also watched the Liusanjie show but didn’t quite enjoy it due to language barrier. The food was quite repetitive amongst all the restaurants offering the same menu. We enjoyed the bamboo baked chicken, the beer fish and taro pork.

Yangshuo has grown in the last 10 years ...

Yangshuo has grown in the last 10 years ... I found it better than the last time I was there. It is much cleaner, much more organised. It has more attractions to see. Love that electric motors are used on scooters and boats ... meaning the place is much quieter. The local people also seemed much friendlier. It is a great escape from busy cities, to go into nature and see how beautiful the natural scenery is.

The view is superb!

The view is superb! I have never seen anything like this in my life. The locals are kind and ready to help. Very safe to travel by family or alone. It's best to spend a week there and explore the region by renting a local electric scooter . But some point of interests are far apart and required to travel by boat so if you can't be bothered, make sure to have your local tour guide to help.

Yangshuo is what people think of when they think of Guilin.

Yangshuo is what people think of when they think of Guilin. It is set in beautiful surroundings, with karst hills, forests and rivers, is full of history and interest and is packed with lively bars and restaurants but has easy access to quieter, rural lanes and villages. Visitors love to dress up in local dress and photograph themselves so there's quite a party atmosphere. I loved it and wished I'd stayed longer than two nights.

There is a lot to do in Yangshuo.

There is a lot to do in Yangshuo. Very nice places to see and we can also enjoy some of them using a bike or scooter. Take a cruise on the Li river and enjoy a bamboo boat rafting (quite soft). At nigh don't miss the light show, an amazing event on water with more than 200 artists

This hotel near West Street is simply amazing! It’s so close to the action—perfect for enjoying Yangshuo’s famous street without any hassle. The staff were outstanding, speaking great English and always ready to assist with a smile. They helped me book a river cruise and shared insider tips on the best local spots. Very kind staff! Craig helped us figure out every plan or question we had, and fixed taxis and a cooking class. The other staff was very friendly as well, could all speak (a bit) English which was quite rare during round trip in China. The menu options were unlimited and all all freshly cooked on request. Very delicious! Comfortable beds with even a beamer, and lovely view over Yangshuo city center and the mountains. Lovely walk through nature and by ferry to the city. Laundry service was fine.

Lovely location clos le to Yangshuo town in a more quiet hamlet. Staff were helpful despite language barrier hotel is very clean with lovely view and super useful service such as scooter rental and washing machine. It’s very kids friendly they have 3 poney a big pool with a kid subdivision and kid park. Kind reco to the hotel Breakfast can be improved ;) We will surely be back

Three weeks, China's trip is the best place, with our family live. Best: family wonderful two rooms and good beds,the most delicious dishes,quiet places and scooters in the neighbour rental, you can ride around beautiful places and truly friendly hotel staff, so if we once returned to Yangshuo we definitely stay at this hotel
