FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernising at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and offers fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centres and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

Shanghai is an amazing, modern metropolis.

Shanghai is an amazing, modern metropolis. Hongqiao is an amazing hub for getting around, whether it's the Airport, the city Metro or th High Speed train network. The scale of the complex is incredible, signage is excellent, you will always feel safe

An amazing place that should be visited at least once.

An amazing place that should be visited at least once. The shopping, the Architecture, the people. The old and the new all mixed together. So much to see and visit that there is not enough time in just one visit.

the tourist attraction was amazing.

the tourist attraction was amazing. Friendly people on the streets and helpful. Traffic was hectic English should be spoken more in Shanghai, so it will be easier to communicate. Favourite Places - Bundt, Magical Tower, the Markets Restaurants - Curry Lounge, NYC Deli Access To Move Around was good.

Jinglai Hotel exceeds expectations for a mid-range option!

Jinglai Hotel exceeds expectations for a mid-range option! The newly opened Nanjing East Road branch boasts impeccable cleanliness, modern facilities, and a design that blends fashion with functionality . The bed is surprisingly comfortable, and the soundproofing works well—no noise from the street or neighboring rooms . It’s just a short walk to shopping malls, restaurants, and metro lines, making it easy to explore the city without relying on taxis . The staff go above and beyond to help, whether it’s storing luggage or suggesting off-the-beaten-path spots . For travelers who want quality accommodation without overspending, this is the place to book.

As we have specific dietary requirements it was difficult for us to find a restaurant that we could eat at because everything pretty much was written in Chinese and when we did the taxi that took us there went out of the way and we were charged 125 yuan to get there and for 49 yuan on the way back which left a sour taste in our mouth. Unfortunately our trip to Shanghai was one that wasn’t as enjoyable as it could have been as we made a booking online to go to the airport but the guy who turned up wasn’t from the company that we booked. We got caught out because he came into the foyer and asked me if we were going to Pu Dong International Airport and I naturally replied that we were and by the time we arrived the meter was 315 yuan, and when the original driver sent a message to us on What’s App he said it should have been around 200 yuan and we were ripped off again so 2 things I have learnt is book your taxi online and ask them to have your name written on a piece of paper to make sure you have the right taxi.

We were a group of four friends and stayed in Shanghai for 5 nights. We could have stayed longer since Shanghai has so much to see and experience but we didn't want to exhaust ourselves by going from one tourist spot to the next. We had a very enjoyable upscale dinner just across the Bund and an expensive but disappointing Peking Duck lunch! Shopping prevented us from experiencing more of Shanghai

This hotel is part of the domestic terminal at Shanghai Hongqiao airport. Very grand entrance from within the terminal on the departures level. Breakfast choice was very good and well worth the extra money. Excellent views of the airport action and looking out over the ramps and runways, if you get a high enough view. Asked for and was given a later check-out time of 2pm at no extra cost. Handy coach service between Pudong and Hongqiao airports too.

This hotel is a perfect combination of price, location, helpful staff and atmosphere. However, the overall management of the facilities and breakfast could be better. Overall I would not say it is a 5 star hotel, but if I come to Shanghai again, I will stay at the Metropolo for the reasons above.

Just 5 mins walk to the infamous roundabout walk overlooking Shanghai skyline, the bund etc. It has an old vibe 5 star hotel. We checking in during the holiday season, so the decoration was outstanding and whimsical. One of the best.
