FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square - Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbours Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Opposite Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Centre for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys whose traditional architecture contrasts with wider, modern roads including Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the north-east.

Stunning Architecture and World Heritage sites all well-...

Stunning Architecture and World Heritage sites all well-managed for visitors, such as shuttles, tickets, toilets and no-smoking policy. A major drawback that this city should improve is the smoking areas. People can smoke freely on the streets, which negatively affects those with respiratory problems and children. This makes our city walks less enjoyable. In addition, many locals tend to spit on the streets, which is another issue that should be addressed.

An amazing city - probably doesn't need more than a 5 day trip. A day-long excursion to the Great Wall of China is a must (hire a driver rather than spending 2 hours on a bus) and get there early to beat the queues for the chairlift up and toboggan down. Starting early is important most days as there are SO many tourists (mostly Chinese) at all the major sights. If you're there longer - consider going to a hot springs (onsen) and choose one that the locals use (we went to one in the Fengtai area) and taking a day trip to another city (we took the high speed train to Tianjin which was fun). The Temple of Heaven was better than the Summer Palace (IMHO) and Beijing Zoo was dismal - only go if you absolutely MUST see the pandas. Get a good VPN before you travel and stay connected to this to be able to use Instagram and WhatsApp. Set up AliPay with your payment details before you go - we didn't use cash once in a week and AliPay lets you book taxis, pay for the metro, pay in shops and pay individuals directly. It's essential. Consider getting WeChat too - people in China use this instead of Whatsapp. Carry your passport with you at all times - you'll need it everywhere - including spot checks in metro stations etc. Have a great trip!

Every traveler should definitely download the Alipay app in...

Every traveler should definitely download the Alipay app in advance, which includes English translation. The app is the easiest way to pay, take the subway, order a taxi, or rent a bike. The first steps are a bit difficult, but once you get it up and running, it makes traveling in Beijing incredibly easy. In many cases, this is the only way to pay, cash is extremely rare. Your passport is requested at almost every attraction and must be scanned, often even on the way out. It's not worth going anywhere without it. They speak English in hotels, but in restaurants, often not anymore. Most taxi drivers, vendors, and waiters communicate with a translation program, which works quite well.

Its such a great city for a holiday.

Its such a great city for a holiday. So affordable when it comes to food znd taxis. I was blown away by the size of the place. Loved learning about the history of the place. Such a strong civilization. The Temples are so beautiful. The drum tower had amazing views znd we really enjoyed the drum playing which happens several times a day. The food was so delicious and enjoyed the various dumplings, soupy noodles thick and thin. Overall its a great city and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone who is interested in history, cultural, good good znd beautiful scenery.

Small, pretty, traditional courtyard hotel (with fish-pond) off an old-fashioned hutong made us feel we were experiencing a bit of historical Beijing! Our room was large, comfortable, and very clean; the hotel was quiet and peaceful at night; staff were super kind and welcoming, replied to emails quickly, arranged taxis to and from airport for us. One evening there was traditional music played in the restaurant - and two friendly pet hotel cats were the highlight for our children!

I keep my hotel addresses in Beijing because I stay there a few times each year. The Grand Millennium has been one of my preferred hotels in recent years. The rooms are very clean and not outdated, the service is very friendly, and the reception staff speak English very well. The location is close to subway line 10, which gives you quick access to all railway stations and both airports via the two airport shuttles. I will definitely come back.

Probably the best hotel in Beijing superior to any other 5 star hotels. Absolutely superb! Deserves to be selected as number one choice: the curated design, the serenity, the attentive staff, the layout of the rooms, the unthinkable detail thought in advance, the dinning experience associated with the unique location with almost a direct connection to Beijing subway, transform a casual stay in a ultimate experience. Congratulations 🤩👏

The location of the hotel is perfect for spending a few days in Beijing. However, thee most wonderful thing about this hotel was the staff. It was our first time in China, so we wanted to make sure to stay at a hotel were we could easily ask for help if needed. They exceeded our expectations! The staff is super friendly, helpful and attentive to any need. The facility is not the most luxurious, but it was absolutely worthy.

The hotel would be one of the best we’ve stayed in. Outclass many of the well known 5 star hotels in US and Europe. Also unpretentious and great for any traveller visiting Beijing for the first or other times. Great location, walking distance to historic sites, shopping, restaurants and metro station. Very walkable location to all venues. Fabulous breakfast. Highly recommend to any traveller. We give it 10 out of 10.
